1. Pushing the limits:

ACT Policing has arrested a 15-year-old female over multiple triple zero calls made in the early hours of Wednesday, June 23.

Emergency services received up to 13 hoax phone calls from the young person between 12.40am and 5.30am, requesting attendance at a location in Lyons. Each time emergency services arrived they could not locate any persons or identify a need for their assistance.

On one occasion, a fire was located in a large skip bin at the rear of the location by ACT Fire Brigade. The fire was quickly extinguished and due to the location of the skip, there was no structural damage to the residences.

The young person will face the ACT Children’s Court on a date to be fixed.

Duty Operations Manager, Sergeant Rod Anderson, said that it was an offence under ACT and Commonwealth legislation to make a false report to police and/or emergency services, to cause police and/or emergency services resources to be wasted, or to use a telephone service to harass a person.

“The Triple Zero telephone line performs an essential function for the Canberra community. Any interference to that function could put someone’s life at risk. Therefore hoax calls to Triple Zero are treated as serious criminal offences,” Sgt Anderson said.

2. Fyshwick Maccas rolled:

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to the armed robbery of the McDonalds restaurant in Fyshwick early this morning (Saturday, June 26).

Around 1am, staff at the restaurant were finalising the closing of the premises when one male offender, armed with a knife, entered the store through the front door and went into the manager’s office, where he threatened two female staff inside the office and demanded the cash takings.

He then left the premises with the stolen property. No-one was injured in the incident.

The offender is described as Caucasian, about 180cms (5’11”) tall, with a solid build, wearing a long-sleeved white jumper and dark tracksuit pants. He spoke with an Australian accent and was wearing a dark balaclava.

Police are urging any witnesses who may have seen a suspicious person answering to this description around the Fyshwick premises at the time of the incident, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to provide information via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

Am I right in thinking that this is far from the first story posted here about the Fyshwick McDonalds being robbed? I feel sorry for the poor staff.

Im surprised it doesnt get knocked off more often. Fyshwick is completely dead in the evenings, and with the nearest police station being Woden, nearly 8km away, as an offender you know youve got plenty of time to get away. To be honest, Im surprised the maccas out there is even still staffed at 1am, I thought by 8 theyd be all closed and locked up.

Just because the nearest police station is 8km away, doesn’t necessarily mean the nearest police are 8km away.

That’s right – the station could be empty with the cops queued in the Maccas drive-through on the other side of town.

Can’t understand why they let the 15 year old girl go, really. It’s obvious that she needs some kind of help – even if it’s not the services of 000.

Agreed, but that’s hardly the kind of thing they’d put in a press release given that it’s quite possible that she can be identified from it. It seems reasonable to assume (I hope) that she’s been referred to other services, her parents notified, etc.

I won’t roll out that tired old joke about the Hamburglar being responsible for the Maccas heist.

happens to know where the managers office is

Well, it’s basically the room at the back with a desk :/ McDonalds buildings are all a set design

The suss bit is – why the door wasnt locked while they were counting the till

Second one sounds a bit dodgy, walks in the front door after closing and happens to know where the managers office is and that there’d be the takings there. Sounds like they knew what they were doing a bit too well..

Does anyone know what was going on outside the Gungahlin Post Office yesterday morning about 10am?
