Crimestoppers should be a manned 24/7 switchboard as i thought it would be, it’s pretty discouraging to hear that people have rang and been told to leave a msg.

Good point TW. What’s the point of a system that encourages people to call urgently with information relevant to a crime if no-ones at the other end to take the call.

Thanks for the comments re my sons bashing. (I may have later comments about the conduct of a certain private hospital) Can I add a great appreciation of Woden Police who were really understanding and vigilant in hunting that particular gang down. Although the ones that were caught and highlighted in the paper didn’t match my son’s attackers and many similar attacks are still going on. Still out there is all I can say,

I tried to get in touch with crimestoppers regarding some drug dealing not once but twice the other week. The first time it rang out, the second time it told me to leave a message, which I did not.

Spam Box,

Further info would be appreciated.

Some Puerto Rican guy did it

If it’s the same bloke we got in an altercation with later on that same night he got what was coming to him.
I’m so sick of going out on a Saturday night (try to avoid it actually, but a mates 21st you cant ignore) and some young upstart (who’s drank too much rum down at Mooseheads) decides to throw a cheap hook as he’s walking past to look like a tough nut infront of his mates.

The bloke who hit one of our mates looked surprisingly similar, he knocked my mate out cold with the cheap shot (which of course started up the rest of both parties) but we came out the better of altercation once they couldn’t jump us from behind.

The cops took statements at that stage and my mate was taken to hospital to get checked out but of course no sign of the cowards who did it (they ran as soon as they started to lose). It’s a sad thing when you have to worry about that sort of thing on a Saturday night in the city… I feel sorry for this poor kid and I hope that they catch the coward and towel him up a bit when they do. If it IS the same bloke, look for the one with the split lip and black eye courtesy of my right hand.

Talking of random acts of violence, on Thursday last week my battery was flat in Belconnen parked near Swanson Plaza, nosed in the wrong way and hoping to catch my boyfriend before he left work (in 10 mins or so) in Belconnen to help me out, I ran down to the mall to use the phones. Anyhow, turns out his phone was out of charge. Couldn’t get hold of his dad either who also worked nearby and then just wanting to get home and wait for my bf there I decided to catch a bus, well that was before I realised the interchange was closed. Not at all savvy with the new plans I decide instead to go in a taxi.

Approaching the rank at the mall, I noticed a guy talking to the taxi’s driver side window, so thinking he was going to get that ride I hung back near the second taxi. I then heard it get heated and the passenger kept yelling and pointing up just ahead. I couldn’t figure what they were arguing about (I thought it was a language barrier fight, couldn’t see the driver and imagined him to be Asian or something). Next thing I know the man outside has reached in and started punching the driver, I think he landed quite a good one at first. Then the driver, tried to open the door to get out and perhaps fight back when I noticed he was an older gentleman, silver haired and all and the other guy slammed the drivers door back onto him with force. At all these last points I told my son to stay at the rank seat quickly and I walked over yelling ‘oi, oi, you can’t do that, oi, oi, stop, on your way’ type thing. The taxi driver behind us had got out and also helped herd the man away in a similar fashion, also copping a bit of whatever this guy was arguing about in the first place.

At that stage, the first taxi driver asked if I wanted a taxi so my son and I jump in while the other driver keeps the man moved on. Then the lady at the seats yells out “call the police, I saw him punch you”. He didn’t want to. Anyhow, my thoughts were to assess whether this driver was okay, not in shock or too shaky to drive or hurt. He’s a brave man I can tell and is happy just to talk about it and get over it quickly. Turns out this man was fighting with the driver about him not being in the ‘correct’ taxi rank, it was actually just ahead in the next bit to this man’s thinking and the taxi driver should pick him up from there (yeah the bloody full Loading Zone he was referring to) and the driver just wanting to get this unreasonable man out of his face so he told him to F*** off! Which started the physical side of the man off. He must’ve been under the influence of something we agreed. Was out of his mind.

Funny enough, it was just a loose terminal on my battery, which I always usually check no dramas when my battery just dies with no warning and it’s usually that but because it had been having other battery issues that week and had swapped batteries round that week, I thought it more related to that and I would need a jump start.

At the end of the day I was glad to have been there to help in my small way though.

Moral of the story is I would never ever aproach a taxi driver by his window, should be done on their passenger side, it’s very scary having drunk/drugged persons in your face, even if you are innocent looking (this man looked normal for all money) and you should refrain at all times. Taxi drivers should close their window and lock that door if approached and tell them to go to the other side. Don’t engage with them ’til you are feeling safe.

Happened to a mate i was with a while back. The dude was a moron, and just punched my mate for no reason, while the police were just a few metres away!! They quickly jumpped on him as they had been following him for a while for other attacks!

As much as u dont want to admit it. there is alot of really shady people in this town

Justsayit – that is horrendous! I really hope your son is okay (as he can possibly be) after such a horrible attack.

Idiots like this need to be caught regardless of how soft we think the legal system has become. In the old days thugs like this didn’t hang around for very long – but I guess that’s why so many of our local coppers were offered VRs in the early 90s before someone caught up with them for metering out their own form of justice.

Please call again cranky…

I’m betting the victim is a lot smaller than this moron is and that he had mates watching from a short distance away. It’s the standard operating procedure for cowards.

One day, Karma will catch up with this idiot and he’ll target someone that can really take care of themselves.

Justsayit – Sorry for what happened to you son, that really sucks. I’ve seen a similar attack at Woden interchange when about 15-20 kids kicked the crap out of an inspector they managed to get on the ground. Luckily a few of us were able to go to wade in and get the victim out of there. I hope witnesses to such acts do try and help, rather than sit by and watch, or worse still film it for youtube.

I seriously hope they get this animal. What scares me is that there was no reason for the attack. My 16 year old son was bashed terribly by the well known southside gang in daylight from behind for no other reason than he was alone and they wanted his wallet/ phone. He had never seen them before (or coming up from behind). Broken nose and fractured eye socket resulted. Is the world going mad that this can keep happening? Poor guy. My thoughts are with him and his family. Call, cranky, you never know if it might help.

He back in Sydney now might as well file this one in Cold Cases, NSW police will never help.

Yes, please call again, cranky.

Try again or call the local police on 131444.

I used to stalk through civic on ridiculous heels at 3 or 4am to get back to my car and never gave it a thought. This was in the 80s, why do we have to put up with this ridiculous situation where the violent lunatics rule?

Ant. This is why I primarily entertain and get inebriated at either my or a friends house. Nothing like random acts of violence to dissuade me from the chances of drinking my food for the rest of my days

So we, or any old lady, could be walking along, and this character could decide to punch our skulls in? Ye gods.

I hope the offender is brought to justice.

It was just one punch – for no reason at all. They showed the security vision on WIN. He just randomly punched this guy then wandered off.

Remember the days when a fight was between willing participants, and the fighting was done with fists? Plates needed in the skull, I don’t think that was inflicted by fists.
