1. A 16 year old plotting a jewelry heist. Ambitious!

ACT Policing has arrested a 16-year-old Curtin male after an aggravated robbery at a jeweller’s in Griffith around 1pm yesterday (October 25).

Police will allege he attempted to run from the shop with a ring. The shop’s security prevented the alleged male offender from leaving. It is alleged he then tried to kick the door out and produced a knife. Staff then released him from the shop.

The ring is valued at almost $2,500.

Information obtained by police led them to a residence in Hughes at which they apprehended two males and a female leaving the address.

The 16-year-old alleged male offender will appear before the ACT Children’s Court tomorrow morning (October 27) charged with aggravated robbery. The other alleged male offender aged 19 from Macquarie will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court charged with a breach of bail and a breach of a protection order. The female was released without charge.

2. Police have now released details of the Stirling death:

ACT Policing is investigating the death of a woman whose body was located in the driver’s seat of a car in Stirling this morning (October 25).

The woman was discovered just before 6am on Streeton Drive between the intersections of Fremantle Drive and Darwinia Terrace by a member of the public.

An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow (Sunday, October 26) in an attempt to identify the woman and the cause of death.

3. What do you do after allegedly knocking over a boozer? Get pissed nearby!

ACT Policing has arrested two juvenile males after an aggravated burglary at the IGA Supermarket, Hughes yesterday (October 26).

About 3am yesterday, police attended the supermarket and found that unknown offenders had gained access by smashing in the front door. Alcohol was stolen from the shop.

Police conducted foot patrols of the surrounding area locating a group of youths at the nearby Hughes ovals. A 15-year-old male alleged offender and a 16-year-old male alleged offender were arrested and charged in relation to the burglary.

Both alleged offenders will appear before the ACT Children’s Court today (October 27) charged with aggravated burglary, minor theft and property damage.

4. Kidnapping at ANU!

ACT Policing is seeking to identify a motorist who was flagged down by a man on Captains Flat Road, NSW about 1.25pm on Friday, October 24.

The man has told police he was walking to his vehicle in the Australian National University, Acton on Friday when he was forced into his car by two men who drove it out to Captains Flat Road, near Queanbeyan. The male reported that he was restrained in the car and a sum of cash was taken.

The man told police that after the men had left the scene in a second car, he exited his vehicle and stopped a male driver in a white-coloured utility on Captains Flat Road and asked where he was. Police would urge the driver of that car to contact Crime Stoppers

5. Hawker has a flasher!

ACT Policing is seeking public assistance in the search for a man who indecently exposed himself at Hawker on Saturday (October 25).

About 1pm, two females, a 21-year-old and a 17-year-old were walking near the Hawker shops when they noticed a suspicious male. The male exposed himself to them before running off.

The offender is described as approximately 175cm (5’9″) tall, of slim build, and spoke with a deep voice. He was aged approximately 30-35 years old with shaved light coloured hair and was wearing a blue singlet top.

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

that is scary about the ANU incident – in the middle of the day too!?

I wonder why they do it too, only thing I can think of quick easy access to what they are after and yes plain stupidity.
We had two wallets stolen last week from work place and watching the video footage the guy was very game to go in that far, in saying that talking to another store owner who saw the guy few minutes earlier said he was high as a kite.
Speaking to the cops all they were after was just the money as they had dumped some of the cards further down a lane way.

Okay, not the best planned robbery ever. But from these police reports, I reckon I’m ranking about average in terms of ACT robberies.

PeterH – I understand what your saying, but I seriously doubt it’s to do with our jails. I’d pin it on our growing population. Alot of our perception of crime in the ACT comes from Canberra having been a rather small town. It’s growing bigger. I’ve heard Gunghalin is one of the fastest growing districts in the southern hemisphere.

More people means more bad seeds. In terms of our population, I don’t think the amount of youths committing crimes is anything special, really. What would it be per capita vs., say, 1980’s Sydney?

Well done Peter,

That’s the stupidest thing anyone has ever said on RiotACT. Quite the achivement.

and it is only early in the week, too.

but really, what is going on? why are there so many crimes committed by underage offenders? what is the cause of these attempts by kids?

seems to be a bit strange that the numbers of juveniles getting caught for stupid crimes – I mean, stealing a ring from a jeweller, where the door swings in, and i would suspect some serious security or smashing a store’s glass door for access to booze, (and why didn’t they just raid daddy’s grog cabinet) – these are very worrying times.

I know i could have phrased it a bit better, but it seems to me that we are hearing about far more juvenile criminal acts after the new centre was opened, and less adult criminal acts.

what has created this culture in the youth of today? (and i know, i sound like my father)

the wowsers could blame video games, tv, movies, etc. But what is the answer?

Yes Peter, because attempting to kick down the door and pulling a knife were all part of their meta-plan to ensure they got a longer sentence. Those sneaky youngins trying to get free accommodation.

Now that we get to be incarcerated in the ACT (or soon anyhow) we needn’t give up our dignity.

Human Rights Gaol – we almost haz one!

I’d like to use Paypal, it’s safer.

Ah, now THAT is robbery!

So, do we just post you our cash and jewellery?
Where should we post them to?

Or where can we (and PC Plodd) meet you?

You know, screw paying rent. I’m going to start robbing people and get myself free accommodation…you know, who needs stuff like freedom and a sense of dignity and self-responsibility?

I’ll do it online. This is a hold-up! Everyone give me their money!

And I am led to believe the jewellery store was Briolette.

Peterh, I too fail to see how your logic works.
I won’t go as far as Jb, but he has more experience of RiotACT than I do.

Well done Peter,

That’s the stupidest thing anyone has ever said on RiotACT. Quite the achivement.

again, another example of the lengths to go to get into the new youth remand facility. seems very strange the the numbers of juvenile crims is going up, doesn’t it?

what is the ACT govt doing to dissuade this?

anyone?

Oh well, six months of watching the Italian job and planning the perfect heist down the drain.
