1. Time to dump the white headphones?

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery which occurred in Kambah on Saturday (May 2).

Around 11.30pm a 23-year-old Chifley man was standing at a bus shelter near the intersection of Summerland Circuit and Mannheim Street when he was approached by two men. One of the men held a screwdriver up to the victim’s neck and stole his iPod.

The victim was not injured in the incident.

The offender with the screwdriver was described as in his early 20s, around 5’ 9” (175cm) tall; with a solid build and wearing a dark-coloured, long-sleeve, hooded jumper pulled over his head and dark tracksuit pants. He was also wearing a dark bandanna which concealed his face.

The second offender was also described as in his early 20s, about 6’ 2” (188cm) tall; with a solid build and wearing a yellow, long-sleeve, hooded jumper pulled over his head and dark tracksuit pants. His face was also concealed with a bandanna and he was wielding a tree branch about one meter in length.

The offenders fled in the direction of Village Creek Primary School on Summerland Circuit.

Police would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who may know the identity of the offenders to contact [them]

2. Getting out the wheel lock and having a swing not a good move in front of police:

An ACT Policing officer sustained hand injuries during a fracas in Lhotsky St, Charnwood on Saturday, May 2.

The incident began around 10.50pm when police were patrolling the Charnwood area in response to an earlier report of a “road rage” incident in which a vehicle had been damaged.

During the patrol, police stopped on Lhotsky St to firstly question a group of teenagers and the driver of a blue 4WD.

While questioning the driver, a vehicle stopped directly behind the 4WD. A man exited that vehicle while aggressively brandishing a metal steering wheel lock and threatening the group of teenagers with it.

The man refused repeated instructions by police to drop the metal bar and police used Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray in an attempt to subdue him. The 17-year-old Charnwood man then complied, was arrested and will be charged with possessing an offensive weapon with intent to commit harm.

The situation escalated however, when driver of the 4WD – a 35-year-old man from Charnwood – interceded and aggressively attempted to prevent the arrest.

Police were again forced to use OC spray but the man refused to comply with police instructions and actively resisted arrest. A struggle ensued in which a female police officer’s hand was injured.

The 35-year-old Charnwood man was arrested and later released. He will be charged with two counts of resisting arrest and one count of causing harm to a Commonwealth official.

Both men have been summonsed to appear in court on May 12.

Police are making further enquiries about the previous “road rage” incident.

3. The Belconnen Biscuit BBQ:

ACT Policing’s Territory Investigation Group is investigating a suspicious fire at the Coles Supermarket in Belconnen around 6.10pm May 3, 2009

Coles staff members were alerted to the blaze in the biscuit aisle and began evacuating customers and staff.

ACT Fire Brigade attended the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. Due to the large amount of smoke the Westfield shopping centre was evacuated. No one was injured during the incident.

The estimated damage bill is $50,000.

AFP Forensic Services has examined the scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police would urge anyone who witnessed the cause of the fire or who can assist police with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers

If you can help police contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.

The Bikkie aisle, you say?! MMmmmm, the smart money’s on the fire being a result of a self-immolation murder/suicide due to a Scallywag/Tiny Teddy love triangle gone wrong.

lol ‘Love Triangles’ would be a great name for a brand of tortilla chips in the next aisle over.

Sounds like if you want to shop lift some biscuits – Coles in Belconnen is the place to go.

Not that I’m advocating that or anything, but surely the boys in blue would look at the CCTV footage to find out the cause. It’s sounding like there wasn’t any footage available.

The Bikie aisle? Those damn bikies, I thought there was a law?

That fire’s gonna cost some big bikkies.

That guy waiting for a bus at 11.30pm on a Saturday Night would have been waiting for a while..

Sounds more like an imbroglio.

These altercations always get ugly when they involve Uncle Daddy.

I believe I’ve heard contretemps used.

Anyone willing to take a bet that the 17 and a 35 year olds were father and son?

This is Charnwood, Canberra’s own bastion of the “Your father was your mother’s father first” lifestyle.
So brother and father, all in one.

skid, watch it. you are lumping me into that equation. and my father is definitely not my grandfather.

I’m betting the 35 year old was one of the teachers from Marist Brothers.

Strangely, the ABC is reporting that it was a male cop injured.

more likely that the 17yo was his brother…

I’m putting my bet on the 17 year old being the 35 year olds uncle…

now, berraboy, that would be a bit wrong, betting on another’s misfortune?

What an idiot. He is lucky the Police didn’t shoot him, which would have been no bad thing by the sounds of it.

I am so glad I don’t live there any more. seems like it is reverting back to the old days…

#2 – These people sound as dumb as the crooks they show on that COPS show.

Gotta love Charnwood!
