Police Wrap – 5 October 2010

By johnboy - 5 October 2010 20

1. He’s doing it the wrong way around:

ACT Policing has arrested a 30-year-old Florey man after he allegedly drove into a bus shelter and then engaged in a short pursuit with police in McKellar today (October 4).

Around 5.10pm police were called to Moynihan Street following reports of the damage to the bus shelter. The alleged offender had driven from the scene but was located in a White Holden Commodore on William Web Drive. A short pursuit ensued after which the alleged offender stopped on Slessor Cresent. He attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

The alleged offender was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House and will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow (October 5).

Is it an offence to run from the police?

I believe it is (evading lawful arrest?), and besides, innocent people rarely run…

You gota hand it the Plods of today. There’re a pretty fit bunch to apprehend those offenders on foot.

Yeah, Krispy Kreme stopped giving out half price donughts… Jerks…

Fast Food franchises will continue to provide discounted food to Police officers as the public realise an officer may be in attendance at any time and it is a lot cheaper than hiring security.

Yeah I always noticed that at dickson maccas (worked there long ago as a 17 year old).
Cops there all the time, you’d have to be an idiot to rob the place as at any given moment two or four cops could walk through the doors.

Doughnut eating cop jokes aside, it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of them would be after cheap coffee more then anything.

Jokes aside, if having some Maccas helps them get through a shift, does it matter? They do a job I’d rather not!

no of course not, I don’t think anyone would seriously bother to *complain* about police being given half priced takeaway or whatever. It’s just kinda amusing to observe/ponder the motivations behind it on the part of businesses.
In the end neither party is losing out and they’re probably going to eat somewhere, so whatever.

Wow, this is the third pursuit this month that we know about where the police caught the bad guy. I wonder how often these things happen where we don’t hear about it.

It’s amazing that no one has ever died during one of these pursuits. They sound really dangerous.

Is it an offence to run from the police? What’s the penalty? will he just have his licence taken away?

I’m impressed with the police who caught him. I reckon the police did a good job.

The Police frequently do a good job. It just doesn’t usually make for exciting news.

Please please someone tell me how to find out the ratio of vehicle types and criminal offences such as the above as every single one it seems involves a Commodore!

Busy time for police in McKellar… I heard the sirens looked out the window, saw the commodore go flying past closely followed by a police vehicle.
