1. Try not to collide with houses…

A 19-year-old Lyneham man will face court today after the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with a house early this morning (June 6).

About 1.10am general duties police patrolling in Lyneham attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen van, which subsequently failed to stop. A short pursuit ensued, ending when the driver failed to complete a right hand turn. The vehicle mounted a gutter and went through a small garden bed before colliding with a house and coming to rest in the main bedroom.

The house sustained extensive damage however there was no one inside the residence at the time of the incident.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and taken in to custody at the scene, a breath test revealing he was driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with driving a stolen motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, driving in excess of the prescribed concentration of alcohol and failing to stop on police direction.

Police were involved in a second pursuit later in the morning (June 6) after attempting to pull over a silver Subaru sedan on Athllon Drive in Kambah about 3.00am. The vehicle, and a second blue Subaru station wagon, were both pursued by police before driving in separate directions.

Police continued to pursue the silver Subaru, which slowed on Vansittart Street before the driver exited the still-moving vehicle and ran from police. The unoccupied vehicle continued down the street before colliding with a house at very low speed. The house suffered no damage as a result.

Police, including the K9 dog squad, chased the offender however were unable to apprehend him. Both vehicles were confirmed stolen, with the silver Subaru seized for forensic analysis.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

That’s the trouble with those damn houses. They never give way. As for repeat offenders, well, the first offence leniency is some indicator that maybe the person didn’t mean it, made a mistake etc etc. Fair enough. Second offence though, should be given a conversly harsh penalty to recognise that the experience of being sentenced for the first one, and it’s leniency, didn’t work. What you have before you is an actual criminal… remove their options for committing more crimes.

too many houses just jump out into the road without looking both ways. someone ought to write a letter… i mean, who’s left thinking of the children?

van missed the gas meter by about 10 cm – could have been a lot worse

Got a phone call from the police at 8 AM this morning informing me my car was at Curtin oval, running. A SUBARU, none the less, apparently these are the cars of choice for low lives (presumably from youth refuge down road) to steal nowadays. Hit a gutter (wish it had been building or large tree at speed) and adandoned it, leaving everything including beer and CDs inside. These derros should be taught a real lesson, not continue getting my taxes in government handouts!

….”doesn’t matter the owner has insurance, what’s the prob?”

Hopefully the insurance companies will find a way to recover losses from criminals who have been successfully prosecuted.

The pieces of shit who deliberately do this sort of thing need to be beaten, raped, shot and burnt.

Good to see such a well thought out and rational opinion. *sighs*

I would be happy with just decent punishment for recidivist offenders like him. Sure, give them suspended sentences for the first 5 or so cars they get caught driving (not to mention the multitude that they get away with!) but after that lets assume the “softly softly” approach isn’t working and start giving out hard time.

Gees. I am amazed at the conclusion that you have all jumped to. It says the cars collided with houses, and you assume the driver was at fault. How have you ruled out the possibility that the houses failed to give way?

You’re being very silly, Of course the first house was stationary. It was unoccupied. Unless the brakes weren’t on properly.

and on a double demerit weekend. Shocking.

There is a certain thing to be said for straight to gaol in solitary for first serious offence. Learn ’em good first time and you won’t get a repeat. Current system only learns ’em that it’s ok by the Courts for their behaviour.

What exactly is the legal limit for driving a stolen vehicle while disqualified? 🙂

.02 would you believe it …..

what is it with youth these days – seems to be a rite of passage at the moment to steal cars, drink and drive – license or no license. they just don’t care! So many people i’ve heard say….”doesn’t matter the owner has insurance, what’s the prob?” ah helloooooo

I would love to know what speed the Subabru slows to in Vansittart Crescent, Kambah? As most people fly around those slow points (at the 50/60k speed limit)& that includes articulated buses

Bummer!!!

A friend of mine is selling the Lyneham house that was crashed into – looks like they’ll be taking it off the market now!

charged with driving a stolen motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, driving in excess of the prescribed concentration of alcohol and failing to stop on police direction.

My prediction for this productive member of society, slap on the bot bot, rinse repeat.

The secret to driving on the road is to aim straight for the houses… and miss.
