1. Try not to collide with houses…
- A 19-year-old Lyneham man will face court today after the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with a house early this morning (June 6).
About 1.10am general duties police patrolling in Lyneham attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen van, which subsequently failed to stop. A short pursuit ensued, ending when the driver failed to complete a right hand turn. The vehicle mounted a gutter and went through a small garden bed before colliding with a house and coming to rest in the main bedroom.
The house sustained extensive damage however there was no one inside the residence at the time of the incident.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and taken in to custody at the scene, a breath test revealing he was driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with driving a stolen motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, driving in excess of the prescribed concentration of alcohol and failing to stop on police direction.
Police were involved in a second pursuit later in the morning (June 6) after attempting to pull over a silver Subaru sedan on Athllon Drive in Kambah about 3.00am. The vehicle, and a second blue Subaru station wagon, were both pursued by police before driving in separate directions.
Police continued to pursue the silver Subaru, which slowed on Vansittart Street before the driver exited the still-moving vehicle and ran from police. The unoccupied vehicle continued down the street before colliding with a house at very low speed. The house suffered no damage as a result.
Police, including the K9 dog squad, chased the offender however were unable to apprehend him. Both vehicles were confirmed stolen, with the silver Subaru seized for forensic analysis.
