1. Teens with crowbars allegedly menace Civic!

A 17-year-old Charnwood male and a 16-year-old Dunlop male will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning after an incident in Civic yesterday (November 5).

Both youths are charged with assaulting two males in Civic including allegedly brandishing crowbars while threatening the pair.

Police arrested the pair after witnesses provided detailed descriptions of the two males.

The youths will face Court on assault and offensive weapon charges.

Police believe the pair discarded the crowbars and clothing in the Canberra Centre area prior to their arrest. Police would urge anyone who may have come across suspicious items to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au

2. Finally we have official word on the Parkway boy racers:

ACT Policing is appealing for witnesses to two motorcycles travelling at speed on the Tuggeranong Parkway on Tuesday (November 4).

Around 3pm one of the motorcycles was recorded travelling north at 242km/hr while the other was photographed one second behind the first bike.

At that speed the motorcycles are covering a distance of 67.2 metres per second. As a result, their reaction time and stopping distance is significantly increased. If they had to react to a hazard they would have travelled 107m before they started to brake or take evasive action. To stop the motor cycle it would have taken a further 307m. Therefore, from seeing the hazard to stopping the bike, it would have taken almost half a kilometre.

Traffic Superintendent Mark Colbran says this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“This extremely reckless behaviour seriously endangers the life of the riders and all road users.

“At the speed recorded by the motorcycles in the event of a collision, it would result in the almost certain death of the motorcyclist and anyone else involved in the collision,” said Supt Colbran.

Oh dexi we have digital theft too. In Swahili it’s called Nigeria.

Tylersmahem…….. The little ones are impressionable. They will just turn to digital theft when they get out.

Two members of a gang of teenagers who were terrorising an estate in South East London were kidnapped and had some of their fingers taken off with bolt cutters.

I was hoping that this is what they are already doing at the new “holiday camp” detention centre?!

Looks like we need to get some more Polish and Czech gueards looking after the little ones in there.

Dear Skidbladnir,

It’s called humour, you plonker.

Science.

So the faster they go, the more time they have to react. This reaction time in fact becomes infinite as they approach the speed of light.

I tend to agree. I think the confusion is around distance travelled due to ‘reaction time’ becoming larger as speed increases, rather than the ‘reaction’ time itself changing.

Sounds like Civic is becoming more and more like South London. You need what happened here some time ago. Two members of a gang of teenagers who were terrorising an estate in South East London were kidnapped and had some of their fingers taken off with bolt cutters. They were released after a few hours with notes pinned to them saying worse would happen if the kids didn’t behave themselves.

A little bit of payback from people who were sick and tired of shit in their neighbourhood. Rumour has it that it was Polish or Czech republic ex soldiers who were paid to carry out the punishment.

As for the motorbike speedsters, if they sneeze and become a red stain on the parkway, who would really bat an eyelid?

maybe you have a point, so they thought they’d obay the law the moment they turn 18?
how crap it must be for them to get old.

Aurelius, that wasn’t clarification, that was pretension.

How about a serious discussion about where legal responsibility should lie at this age? I’ve met dozens of seventeen year olds who blatantly disregarded the law and did so as they knew that they would be treated leniently by the Children’s Court.

woo woo woo DJ, stop the mix, Queanbeyan isn’t that bad yo, just tie your shoes tighter and you’ll be fine. lets face it what ever happens it doesn’t count for much if anything when they’re 18. but i believe the speedy bikers are more the problem. they’ll keep going till they learn by hurting themselves or others though evan then if someone is doing 242k/h, they are doing it for enjoyment not as a one off, which means they may not change their behaviour at all.

Classic Skid. Simple and elegant. It is a thing of beauty is it not?

; )

Dear Avy,

You’re an idiot.

Science.

“As a result, their reaction time…is significantly increased”

So the faster they go, the more time they have to react. This reaction time in fact becomes infinite as they approach the speed of light.

Dante, I was offering something constructive. You didn’t understand something. I tried to clarify it for you.

🙂

Yeah, Aurelius, how dare you question other people’s hysterical demands that teenagers be sent to jail.

You’re a patronising git Aurelius, why not offer something constructive to the discussion instead of looking down on it from that pedestal?

You’re in fine fettle today!

*chuckle*

(Whatever fettle is).

Hard to understand isn’t it?
Under 18 – Child
Over 18 – Adult
Complicated, eh? I can see how it can be confusing for some.

I find it hard to understand how 16 and 17 yr olds are dealt with in the Children’s Court… they may be still legally children, but they’re allowed to drive and have sex, so surely they can differentiate between what’s acceptable behaviour and what’s not?

Unusual of you JB to start a story relating to Police that isn’t laced with scarcasim or ‘wit’.

Topic related… who goes about with crowbars? Just can’t wait to see how the Courts deal with these kiddies. Their excuse will probably be that they were going to school in Queanbeyan.
