1. If you’re interested in this stuff the new AFP Commissioner’s first speech is online.

2. Drink driving menace ongoing:

ACT Policing yesterday (Sunday, September 6) arrested a 20-year-old male provisional driver for drink-driving after the Hyundai sedan he was driving veered off the road in Reid, through a front yard and struck a house.

The incident occurred around 5am in Corranderk St, Reid. An occupant of the house received minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was later found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.15, or more than seven times his permitted BAC of 0.02. The Campbell man was arrested and bailed from the Regional Watch House. He will face court on a date to be fixed.

This incident was the second collision involving drink-drivers since Friday afternoon when around 4.20pm police attended an incident in Gordon where a Holden Vectra had collided with a light pole in Knoke Avenue.

The 53-year-old male driver from Gordon subsequently recorded a BAC of 0.248. Police will allege that the driver had collided with a parked car on his way into the Lanyon Market Place, purchased alcohol, driven from Lanyon then a short time later collided with the light pole on the median strip on Knoke Ave.

He will be summonsed to court on a date to be fixed.

The Officer in Charge of ACTP Traffic Operations, Sergeant Erin Pobar, said the reckless disregard shown by these drink-drivers for not just their own safety, but that of others, should be a concern for the entire community.

“These incidents clearly demonstrate how drink-drivers, through their thoughtlessness and irresponsibility, could easily maim or kill others. We would urge anyone who sees or suspects someone of drink-driving to report them to police on 131-444. That phone call to police could save someone’s life,” Sgt Pobar said.

That’s the exact quote is it? “What the fuck am I? How would I know what’s stolen and what’s not?” (note: I put some punctuation in for you).

What a load of bollocks.

The rest of your post isn’t worth commenting on any further (nor was your other post – my mistake for replying in the first place).

the problem is he didnt ask in a polite manner, rather “wtf am i, how would i know whats stolen and whats not.”

and with the sign pole they did absolutly nothing about moving it to make sure nobody else hits it. no WE had to move it out the way while they were more interested in blocking the whole street so nobody else could get past their van while they walked around the car 20 times with their torches trying to pin it on me.

Thats the problem with them! Didnt know doing the right thing was suddenly bad. next time i shouldnt bother. let someone else run over the sign and destroy their car or cause an accident.

So what’s the problem Marty? You reported a stolen car, they ask a perfectly reasonable question, then presumably deal with it.

They stop to make sure you didn’t take out a sign. Again, why is that a problem?

Sounds like you deal with police a lot. Wonder why that might be…

Sarcasm peterh. People don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions and look for someone else to blame. AS I said it’s the fault of the Police for catching him. Add that to a busted childhood and an alcohol addiction and off you go my good man.

People continue to drink and drive as they think they can get away with it.

well, special G, if they are a mate of mine, they won’t. nearly all of my mates get a cab, and the rest bunk down for the night. It is a learning curve for new friends, but they get the hint. i have lost friends through the actions of drink drivers, some in the same car and some who were hit by them. I was an alcoholic myself, but I at least had enough sense to leave the car and walk home. I have never, nor will I ever drink and drive.

sometimes tho the police are just unhelpful period. like when i called to advise of a stolen car parked out the front. i got a crap response of “Well how do you know its stolen?” maybe cos the club lock is mangled up and laying on the back seat whilst the drivers door lock has been reefed out and the ignition is in pieces with wires out the back. I dunno tho, im not an expert car thief.

or the time we stopped to pick up a road sign in the middle of the road which someone hit and just carried on.. as i stopped the police rocked up, not caring about the sign but instead block the road to ask me if i didnt really take the sign out incl the concrete base, even tho my barina looks as new as when it left the showroom.

some cops have been helpful in the past when i’ve reported stuff but the majority of times i’ve just had some cockwad who doesnt really want to do anything. sad really…

If you call the police after one of these lunatics, and they organise themselves in their usual timely fashion, and an accident does happen which (god fobid) injures or maims someone, is the police to blame?

You know the Poice are always to blame, even if they weren’t there. At least I am safe in the knowledge that no one could park their car in my bedroom.

How does someone with a reading that high ever think they are good to drive? they must have noticed that they were having trouble concentrating. beggars belief.

And the blame for the actions of a drink driver are theirs, not the purveyor of alcohol, not the police, not anyone else.

so many times i have seen people take stupid risks after getting a skinful. I have tried on a couple of occasions to intercede, but have now resorted to calling the police and advising them of the person’s condition & their number plate. My friends know that if they are drunk and get behind the wheel, i will be dobbing them in. They are still my friends, and I do this because I care. If I didn’t, I would just let them go.

Same old same old from the police and the courts. It’s getting boring.

BAC of 0.248. Now that is well and truely pissed. Big effort for 4.20 in the arvo. Loser.

Yes it is & he was he crashed almost on the corner with Wookcock Drive, luckily it was after 4.00 so the traffic was light otherwise there would have been kids & Mums everywhere.

c9, how could the Police possibly be to blame under those circumstances? There is only one person in control of decisions made when someone drives like a ‘lunatic’ or while boozed to the eyes. It’s a question of who needs to take responsibility for themselves.

Yes, yes it is. I suggest you sue as many as you can find. They may get off though, because their instantaneous teleportation device may have failed causing a slight delay particularly if they were responding to other incidents …….

“We would urge anyone who sees or suspects someone of drink-driving to report them to police on 131-444.”

Down in the Lanyon Valley it’s a bit hard to know whether they’re drunk, stoned, stupid, bogan, or just your typical arrogant and ignorant Canberra driver. It seems that just about everyone down there is challenged by the prospect of driving a vehicle properly.

The primary school is on Knoke Avenue is it not.. he’s lucky there isn’t any dead kiddies..
