Well into the second quarter of financial year 2010/11 it’s pleasing to see Simon Corbell announce that the purchase agreement for ACT Policing in 2010/11 has been signed off.

There are a few tweaks to what the police do:

Mr Corbell said the Ministerial Direction for the 2010 – 2011 Agreement requires ACT Policing to take a leadership role with partner agencies in the delivery of liquor industry reforms in the ACT.

“The Government in this year’s budget specifically funded 10 additional police officers as part of the liquor industry reforms. It is important that the Police, who have a central role in the reform process, lead the way in the delivery of the reforms.”

“The Ministerial Directions I have issued also provide direction for work with partner agencies on a property crime reduction strategy.”

Mr Corbell said that he has also provided that the Ministerial Directions ensure a continued targeting of traffic offences and drink-driving by Police with the aim of improving road safety in the Territory. The aim is to optimise mobile technology in police vehicles to increase police efficiency, visibility and the exchange of information with the community. This includes the high-visibility six-member RAPID team which commenced operations in July this year and was another initiative funded under the 2010/2011 Budget.
