The Australia Institute is giving notice that Katy Gallagher will be their guest for Politics In The Pub at the Uni Pub on 23 November:

The Australia Institute will host its final Politics in the Pub for the year in Canberra on the evening of Wednesday 23 November. We are pleased to annouce that our guest will be the ACT’s Chief Minister Katy Gallagher. Ms Gallagher became the ACT’s sixth Chief Minister in May of this year. This will be an opportunity to hear about her vision for Canberra and to ask her questions about the issues that are important to Canberrans in the lead-up to next year’s election.

also there are some homeless people who are happy as they are.

It is a huge misconception that ‘all’ homeless people are mentally ill. A major study in Melbourne found that out of 4000 homeless people, 15 percent had mental health issues prior to becoming homeless and about 16 percent developed them after becoming homeless. An archaic mental asylum/prison is the last thing we need. Mental health wards in the hospitals are just fine.

Open education is the answer I believe. There has been a few universites that have started a course here in Australia that teaches all about the humanities, for disadvantaged people – Catalyst-Clemente. It has had amazing success. The idea behind it was that humanities aren’t just for the elite – “http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2011/s3323149.htm”.

Help people to help themselves. Brilliant.

I’ve a good mind to go just to ask her WTF are we spending $432m on a new government building for, and precisely how much is being spent on helping the homeless situation.
