Ponting’s swansong for Johnboy’s birthday

By johnboy 27 November 2012 8

Well look at this.

Cricket Australia have announced that the greatest Australian batsman since Bradman is going to do a victory lap as captain of the Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval on January 29.

The match will be played against the West Indies on Tuesday 29 January at Manuka Oval, and a capacity crowd is expected.

Ricky Ponting is thrilled about the opportunity to captain the Prime Minister’s XI.

“It’s a big honour for me to be selected as captain of the Prime Minister’s XI.”

“It will be an exciting team of emerging cricketers and I’m looking forward to leading them against the West Indies on January 29.”

As for the rest of the team, that will be selected by Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel (NSP) with input from Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and will be announced in January.

One shudders to think what the input from Prime Minister Gillard will consist of.

But a Manuka send off for Punter against the windies in a first ever day/night match will be a gloriously messy thing.

What’s Your opinion?

While the other day night game (6th Feb) is almost a sell out.

Um, certain tardy idiots just went to the site to purchase tickets and were confronted with the words ‘Allocation Exhausted’. Sulking is happening right now.

Scalping too, I’m sure…

Should be a great game with punter and Chris Gayle batting.
If this cannot draw a crowd, nothing can!

How to get the people to & from Manuka Oval is the big issue.

This will be a challenge for Manuka oval management. The issue is preventing the parking chaos in the district that happens when a huge event in on.

Organising park & ride must be a top priority!

$7 seems pretty cheap for professional sport!

Well at least 15 people agree with you and they have plenty of seating options

$7 entry and the beers are probably $8 a can
