We this year’s Rugby World Cup is over for us and the Kiwis so we may as well look to the next one, which is exactly what ACT Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan and the Canberra Times are doing by speculating that the New Zealand Rugby Union will not be able to host the 2011 World Cup if they fail in their bid to drop the number of competing team to 16. If this happens New Zealand Rugby will be unlikely to have the infrastructure to go it alone and therefore will likely need ARU support to pull it off, which in due course would open up the opportunity for Canberra to host a game or two.
In all likelihood we’d get Georgia vs Japan or something but some international rugby is better than nothing.
Planet Rugby is now carrying the story here.
