One of my favourite (albeit erratic and egocentric) Canberra blogs, Pop Goes Canberra, has published her What’s Hot and What’s Not list for 2005.

The Knightsbridge Penthouse (formerly Mortis) in Braddon comes in for particular attention.

Knightsbridge, Braddon – great furnishings etc, and free wine tasting once a month – great idea but pity the wine is pretty crap and the people serving it scowl at you when you actually want to taste some but not buy any due to the fact it’s crap

Anyone hold a dissenting view?

Yeah look, I don’t really get out late at night, but in the afternoon after work Knightsbridge is a great place to catch the last of the afternoon sun and have a grown-ups beer. Anyhoo –

a) my general opinion of wine is that if you’re drinking it for the tase or buying it for the taste then your missing the point. If you’re attending a wine tasting this applies doubly so because these events reek of folk with overt drinking problems.

b) The staff at Knightsbridge have always been and remain a wonderfully friendly bunch. Good looking as well. So I’m shallow – so what.

In addition, (and probably most importantly) it is a small business enterprise run and operated by some very young and worthwhile individuals whose tireless efforts are incredibly admirable in comparison to what I was doing at the age of 22. And even in comparison to what I’m doing now come to think of it.

I dissent – it sits in my hot list.

As a point of reference though, Pop Goes Canberra also includes grass clippings, eurotrash pop music, more eurotrash pop music and annoying fake irish accents in her ‘What’s hot’list. So take your cues from that.
