From the ESA:

Motorists from the broader ACT community travelling to the Batemans Bay area this weekend are advised to use caution when driving on the Kings Highway as potential smoke from bushfires burning in the Monga, Duea and Budawang National Parks may impact visibility on the highway.

Motorists are reminded to be mindful of Emergency Service vehicles using the Kings Highway to access the fire grounds.

For all enquiries call the ESA 24 hour media line on 6207 8564.

RFS is *way* out of date with their layer:

Those two fires joined up before I even ate my cheese sandwich for lunch today. Nothing like being up a narrow ridge on an overgrown track just as smoke suddenly fills in the valley on the side you though was “safe” to delay your appetite…..

If only some of those arsehole in boats could be sent down here to show us how brave they are and help us put it out, eh?

The Wiritin Ridge and the Budawang fires joined up this afternoon.
You can see the smoke rolling on over Tharwa right now. There were quite a few choppers there trying to calm things down this afternoon, and as the wind is kind of all over the place (although trending Easterly) the choppers with the buckets were being led in by a spotter chopper due to the poor visibility.

Here’s the thing – the bulldozer driver has been working for about 20 hours straight, sorting out access and putting a potential containment through, right across both fires (he started before they became one), and he gets to property owned by feral greenies and they deny him access. &%$%#ing greenies. The fire is coming through unless you actually pull out your finger and stop it. These feral arseholes who eat vegeburgers and grow pot are going to allow the fire through their property, round the sides of everybody else’s containment lines, and we’ll be back to square one.
There should be a law against greenies. Especially these ones – overly fond of nicking lengths of my poly pipe as they are. Mind you, they are *very* well armed ferals, so I always smile at them….
