A cake baking contest will be held to celebrate Canberra’s 100th birthday and I only just realised the connection between those two while typing this sentence. Ahhh birthday cakes.

Duh.

At any rate there will be prizes and judges and cakes! I like all of those things.

Canberra cake creators are invited to enter online for the Canberra Centenary Cake Competition. Entries are now open for the contest which turns up the heat, in the kitchen, as competitive Canberra cooks battle it out for the ultimate title of Canberra’s Centenary Cake Champion.

Winners are to be announced at the Griffith Narrabundah Community Association (GNCA) Explore: Portrait of a Suburb Street Party, taking place adjacent to the newly named Blaxland Park in Griffith at the M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent Griffith on Saturday 18 May 2013.

Cake bakers are urged to get their entries in now as this competition is sure to fill up fast. Applicants can register and find more information at www.gnca.org.au. Some great local prizes are up for grabs for the winning bakers.

A fun event for all the family, in this competition there are no “fussy” rules. Participants are invited to bake something that is interesting and fun and above all, tastes good. Entrants are free to design and bake whatever creation they wish and kids are encouraged to take part.
“There is sure to be lots happening on the day but the cake competition will definitely be a highlight”, said Diane Hinds, member of the GNCA Committee and competition organiser.

Any Bakery-Wizards amongst our readers? Anyone keen to through their cake hat into the cake ring?

The second link doesn’t work. I wasn’t thinking of entering, but I hoped there would be a call-out for stray judges.

I live on such crumbs of fantasy…

So you are a closet cake fancier? Is this your favourite band?

Since the bakery at Holbrook was mentioned here recently, I’ve been fighting the urge to drive there just to buy a Neenish tart.

Perhaps I can write a poem about the inland submarine to make the trip legitimate (it cries out for a poem) and then say, ‘While I’m here, I may visit the bakery. What, no vegetarian pies? I must, then, of cruel necessity, purchase a Neenish tart.’

The things that being almost fit do to you are quite pathetic.

Now, let us return to Canberra and the native cakes yet to be.

Oh, I finally see what you mean. I thought you knew that they were entering a cake, and you were supporting them.

I’ll see your Shine Dome and, erm, raise you an owl from Belconnen. After all, it’s interesting and fun and above all, tastes good.

if they need cake tasters i am in…

This may be the best of the Centenary events!

Wondering how many entries will be shaped like the new Parliament House and how many like the old …

Academy of Science for the win!

Can we do a whip-around to buy Barcham some more commas?
