And remember, the woman in labour is always right!

wow granny, what a concession – i always thought it was just ‘woman..is always right’..!

and you, emd. see you in-store soon – and if anyone else looks at this thread again, here are the pics: http://www.fitmums.biz/seminarpics.html

and jim, the most excellentest advice! i intend to have a ball and already don’t mind not much sleep and am anticipating the overwhelming joy of simply staring – will be a bonus hoot watching astress-to-be adapt to low sleep!!

cheers everyone… ; )

Don’t worry about it. It’s your own trip, you can do it your own way.

Well put.

Was nice to meet you astrojax, hope everything goes smoothly for you and astress-to-be.

Forget sleeping – go and see a stack of movies, expensive dinners out and theatre nights. You might not get to do any of those for quite some time after the baby arrives.

Then again, you probably won’t care too much about that stuff anyway.

It’s all good. Don’t worry about it. It’s your own trip, you can do it your own way. It’s not the end of life as you know it; actually, the contrary is probably more true.

Relax and enjoy!

go and see a stack of movies

If the mum-to-be is beyond 6-7m, then sitting for long enough to watch a movie will get more and more difficult (not to mention making it through a movie without a loo break). Take a few pillows and expect some fidgeting.

I agree with Sepi; and I also think it is a mistake to overload on sleep pre-birth, as you will find it even harder to manage if you are used to loads and loads of sleep. May as well get used to going without sleep now, so that it isn’t too much of a shock!

sorry, forgot that one. been a while since the last labour event.

astro, one sage bit of advice i got, prior to the birth of my first child, is to sleep now! sleep in! often! once the littlie comes along, those lazy sunday sleep ins are over. I have never felt so tired in my life. But they are a great source of fun, love and I wouldn’t give them up for anything. Enjoy every day with them, they will teach you the important things in life, and that includes no desire to work late…

Way to go, astro!! I bet the bridesmaid’s are miffed when you beat them to the bouquet at weddings …. *chuckle*

You will be the best dad! It’s so exciting!

: )

have to add, this was an excellent seminar, even for the lone dad-to-be (who also walked away with the cosmetics raffle prize, much to astress-to-be’s delight! i really liked getting across the slings thing, emd, and it was great to meet you. will visit the shop soon (esp if astress has anything to do with it!)

thanks to jenni and co for a marvelous session…

I don’t think anyone is selling anything at the seminar, it’s more to let new parents know what’s out there and some ideas on health & fitness. Some of the guest speakers don’t sell stuff, but are service providers or experts on how to do things (eg preparing for the actual birth).

i’ll be watching… ; )

will there be sales of these items there?

I’ll be doing a demo on different styles of baby slings and what’s good for newborns.

Sounds great emd. Are you going to be presenting?

i’ll rent mine out to you, thumper, for a fee… ; )

Babywearing dads = totally eye candy!

*chuckle*

yup! though ingrid was doula-ing, so the effervescent marie stepped in ; )

those “first six weeks” seminars are great. David and Ingrid really know their stuff 🙂

thanks granny – it was of course the lure of free stuff anyway! and my better half considers me eye candy always, so i guess i’d pose that risk anyway! ; )

actually, went to a great ‘first six weeks’ seminar thing last weekend, was very enlightening and empowering to get some grasp on realistic expectations. very exciting, of course! looking forward to the slings, actually…

I think more dads should get involved in prep for the new baby. Dads can do everything mums can do except breastfeed, and they definitely need to know what they can do to support mum during labour! Plus there’s some women who consider babywearing dads to be eye candy 😉

I don’t think that would be odd at all, astro. Why shouldn’t a new dad go along to get info. It’s not like it’s just the mothers that need to know about slings! Plus they have prizes and free stuff!! Free stuff should never be sneezed at!

ta emd, will try to get the fat one to go, but she may be otherwise engaged [dang work..!] might have to play lone father-to-be and see what’s me can pick up for her… would that be odd?

No idea, you’d have to contact the organiser.

Any comment on creche availability? I’m currently 38 weeks and theres no way I could keep my toddler under control at this otherwise!
