Prime to do the Wagga news from Canberra?

By johnboy - 30 June 2010 7

The Wagga Wagga Daily Advertiser is concerned that Prime’s Wagga news operation is being moved to Canberra:

Veteran Prime News presenter, Doug Hogan has worked in the media industry for 36 years, and 28 years of that time has been spent at Prime Wagga.

He has been promoted to deputy network news editor in Canberra and will continue his role as a leading Prime anchorman.

“The live broadcast will finish up after 46 years, but that is a process of the changing faces of media,” he said.

“We have been under fire from some people thinking that we won’t have the same local content while I’m in Canberra but that won’t change.

Shame they can’t do Canberra news from Canberra.

Maybe people in Wagga have a lower standard for what’s considered news?

Pretty relevant that they can do a half hour of news about Wagga but not Canberra, doubly so when doing the production here.

That should say most of Prime’s NSW bulletins..

The story is of little relevance for Canberra, other than there being some additional staff at Prime’s Canberra studios. They are basically going to tape Prime’s Wagga news bulletin (which is a full half hour) here rather than in Wagga as it currently is. It’s a further consolidation of news rooms to the Canberra studios, most of Prime’s news bulletins and “updates” are already taped here and will likely continue with the same people.

What does this mean for current PRIME Canberra news reader Natalie Forrest?

Actually they could show the Wagga news here as well. Has about the same relevance as the Sydney news….
