Hmm I wonder how that piece of shit Shane Williams will be treated for the sexual assault of the 3 year old girl.

I went to school with a Shane Williams who was a low life piece of …then. Wonder if its the same one? Google images did not help me..

This particular piece of shit is,i believe, an indigenous 40 year old with a 20 year history of crimes against children. The new CJ appears to have the same sentencing values as the old guard much to my chagrin!

Thanks. Not the same one then. Even so both appear to be equal wastes of flannalette.

Source?

“Flame” and “slander” definitions from Wikipedia (yes, not very high-brow, apologies for going all IrishPete and only using Wikipedia, but I didn’t feel like digging through Smedley’s Legal Dictionary 4th ed: Torts, Rorts & Courts)

Am I becoming a meme (is that the right term)?

Wikipedia is an easily accessible first source, it’s not something you should rely on. I advise students it is OK to use it to help understand a topic, but they will include it in their reference list it at their peril. Always go to reputable, peer-reviewed sources for dependable definitions.

I grew up with a 20-volume Children’s Encyclopedia Britannica on the bookshelf, and numerous dictionaries. Now the internet provides those resources, more up to date but needing to be treated with caution..

Biggest offender of all when it comes to flame is complaining! Gold!

In all honesty, I welcome that Jazz is unbiased. And few two-faced, double standard bastards are disliking it.

Bud, I never flame. I’d like you to retract that slanderous statement.

I would never normally stand up for Stormfront, but…

Flame: “a message sent over the internet with the deliberate intent to insult” “Flaming, also known as bashing, is hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users…”

Slander: “…the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation…”

Stormfront calling CGN a flamer is neither a false statement (I’ve found CGN and Stormfront and a few others on RA pretty awful) nor does it harm CGN’s reputation, since CGN’s reputation is already pretty negative. Jazz even had to single CGN out to say he’s not singling CGN out.

*sigh*. Let the attacks against me begin.

Source?

Go to eBay and buy a dictionary with no source ffs.

How would we know? Given some of the crap that’s made it through moderation lately, the bar must be set pretty damn low already.

Well it has been somewhat of a free for all in Eastman and Mully articles with personal insults galore. It seems to give quite a few a hard on or is it merely a reflection of lowly evolved behaviour?

I came across the canberra times article about this by accident, and wow, super lol.

He is apparently a hard man who demands respect from prisoners and guards alike!

How have the masseys gotten such a big reputation around town just because they are dumb asses who keep getting caught?

You really know jack s*** about the law, don’t you? Don’t answer – it was a rhetorical question. You bang on like you’re some kind of authority on the criminal justice system, while constantly demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of the most basic topics. You can’t even grasp the basic concept of negating defences of assault. Stop talking s***; the old baffle them with bull*** tactic doesn’t work on everyone.

You’re right of course. 16 years working in the criminal justice system. A Masters degree in criminal Justice. But I know nothing about it.

The place for the defence of consent is in court, not when you report the assault to the police. The fact of reporting it to the police is so strongly implicit of a lack of consent, that the question “did you consent to the assault?” is grossly offensive.

All the police are doing in asking the question is trying to avoid work.

I thought you were against things like stabbings and assaults? Its a shame you are so bereft of smarts that you will only ever be one that contributes and perpetuates violence and retribution upon others. How come you just can’t see that humans as frail, the world as imperfect, and lousy things happen. Judging others harshly as you do is a fruitless attempt to circumvent your very legitimate suffering of little mind syndrome. Get back in your taxi, this time you should try and listen to your passengers, try and understand that we’re all trying. Please don’t go and get yourself stabbed, I would hate for you to experience that.

I wish I could tell you that Andy fought the good fight, and the Sisters let him be. I wish I could tell you that – but prison is no fairy-tale world. He never said who did it, but we all knew. ….

Things went on like that for awhile – prison life consists of routine, and then more routine. Every so often, Andy would show up with fresh bruises. The Sisters kept at him – sometimes he was able to fight ’em off, sometimes not. And that’s how it went for Andy – that was his routine.

I do believe those first two years were the worst for him, and I also believe that if things had gone on that way, this place would have got the best of him…….

Who is Andy? Who are the “Sisters”? What is this about and what has it got to do with the subject?

Surely you jest? A quote from the “Shawshank Redemption” is in the fine RiotACT tradition of popular culture references, and I for one say “Well Done PBO”

Clearly my inability to quote, or even recognise, lines from Hollywood movies or Steven King books displays the abysmal depth of my cultural ignorance. I shall never live this down.

Pity it was only his leg.

The alleged incident involved two detainee’s assaulting another detainee. Police have been advised that the victim has sustained a number of injuries

Surely they mean “injury’s”?

Is it an alleged incident? Or is it an incident involving two detainees allegedly assaulting?

indeed. I’ve just about given up on the overuse of “alleged”. It is often used in circumstances that are offensive to the victim, as it implies they are not telling the truth. It is quite possible to write a sentence that makes the “alleged” apply to the suspect, and not the victim.

And if you’ve ever been assaulted and reported it to the police, they ask you “Did you consent to being assaulted?”. They think they have to do it because they only have a basic and inflexible understanding of law, but hey, it was you that called them, so I think they could probably dispense it with unless you’re all dressed in PVC and tied to a bed when they get there.

I once had a cop turn around to go home because I hadn’t said “stop assaulting me” to the perp – fortunately another officer with a brain turned up right then, and fat old lazy stupid cop was able to go home while young keen fit bright cop got on with the job.
