Proposed landscaping on the GDE - get ready for a slow trip again (maybe).

On Twitter, I asked the Chief Minister and Simon Corbell (twice) whether or not proposed landscaping on the GDE would result in slower speed zones being put in place on the sections of the GDE near where the landscaping would be taking place.

Normally, both the Chief Minister and Mr Corbell are quite quick to respond on Twitter, but not on this occasion which makes me highly suspicious.

Can anyone confirm either way?

Thanks

I’ll go for whatever costs the contractor the least money – probably (d).

And during peak traffic periods when the landscaping is not taking place, will the roadworks speed restrictions be:
a) removed
b) covered over
c) partially covered so that it’s up to the driver to guess (as per Cotter Rd/Streeton Drive)
d) left in place (as per Floriade/Commonwealth Ave)
e) a combination of all of the above

I’m going to say e, simply because it leaves the driver in the most amount of doubt over the actual speed limit, and in my experience they do like to leave motorists confused as to what the actual speed limit is around road works. (Cotter road for example)

Of course they will have their point to point speed camera’s set up ready to catch all those “speeding” motorists who where simply just confused as to what the speed limit really was.

Hi richiedt

Any disruption to traffic while landscaping work takes place will be minor however the safety of people working in proximity to the road is a priority. Landscaping work will not be undertaken during the peak traffic periods.

How come in France street sweepers regularly work along 80kph roads clearing gutters with no change in speed and here we have to close a lane and slow everything down to 40kph?

Like I said on Twitter, I think Canberrans deserve a LOOOOONNGGG break before there’s any more speed reductions on the GDE. we were very patient during the upgrade and deserve a break, at least until the new year!!

Maybe ‘Canberrans’ would prefer if the edge of the road was left as a muddy boggy mess, devoid of any landscaping… just so you dont have to slow down on your new road?
