Art with a capital ‘F’

I-filed, the waving thingies as you call it are probably some of ACT Government’s better investments. The sculptor is a New Zealander by the name of Phil Price. His kinetic works are very highly regarded. Personally, I love them and even when looking at buying in Hughes counted being close to the Angel wings as a bonus, but it’s all a matter of taste.

Naturally, supporting more local sculptors should also be an aim of our wonderful public art program.

I’d like to know the resale value of some of the atrocities installed around Canberra.

Is the ACT Government valuing these artworks and how is it evaluating ROI? Public feedback? Social good? Ainslie cod: yes. Waving thinggies: unlikely.

Charny Shops is actually part of a conceptual art installation entitled ‘urban despair’.

So are these public artworks exclusively for inner north trendies?, what about something pointy sharp and shiny at Charny Shops?

They are already there, a tasteful little piece called “carelessly disposed of contaminated hypodermic needles”.

Nice, but it ain’t no Zebra.

That is a good fish. It looks like a fish, it’s interesting and looks skillfully done. I wonder how long it will last?

Finally, some public art I DO like! Let’s keep this one, and get a refund on the stuff that looks like Revolve’s leftovers.

I like it!

“really excited to see a fence”…. give me strength!

Interesting…
I’d be interested to know what the link is between said cod and Ainslie?

Sepi: LOL

This is much nicer than the hideous eyesore snake-thing in Bunda Street.

Cod’s in his heaven, and all’s right with the world!

there were snails with kids sitting on them – they’ll shine up soon enough.

Not shown here: obligatory shiny bit?

Thanks I-filed and sepi – it’s a pleasure to see someone enjoying these delightful artworks, rather than endlessly whingeing about the government wasting money – I think these are all a valid and beneficial investment of public funds to support high-quality artists and genuinely improve our city!

Ainslie has lucked in. Best public artwork in Canberra’s history – other than the Jan Brown birds and the “fat little man” sculptures in Civic.

The Ainslie stuff is great.

but I was really excited to see a fence around a few artworks and some paving. I thought it would be a rare opportunity in Canberra to take the kids outside and actually not have to hold their hands at all times, and actually chat to someone.

But no luck. Fence is only on 2 sides, and the rest is open to the little runners.
