The ABC reports Ted Quinlan’s identified the source of all the ACT Budget’s problems.

ACT Treasurer Ted Quinlan says public servants taking early retirement have contributed to the parlous state of the territory’s Budget.

Mr Quinlan predicts the Budget will return to surplus in coming years but concedes superannuation will be a growing impost.

So all you public servants out there reading this, on behalf of the Treasurer and whoever takes over his job I beg you please do not take early retirement. Just keeping working until you drop dead at your desk, ok? Otherwise your payouts and superannuation are going to bankrupt our beloved city and then where will we all be?

If super is made free choice again, I’ll still expect to get the same total renumeration a year as I do now without having to so much as batter an eyelid.

The federal public service super isn’t funded either.

Go work for the Queensland gov though – theirs is, that’s what the Queensland Investmant Corporation that owns half of Civic is all about.

the money comes from somewhere. when the boss is doing the budget you’re the sum of all your costs, not just the ones you get in your pocket.

RG, if your super is coming out of your pay then you need to talk to your employer quick smart. Superannuation is supposed to be an EXTRA 9 per cent, not an excuse to pay you less.

Cause god forbid anyone take back that portion of their EARNED pay that they are forced to set aside for super.

Mr_Shab, no, they just move them to the ACT Dept of Education (Admin).

You can be the most useless SOB and they won’t fire you.

the practices you are referring to are no longer the norm.

the “he malingerers, the chronically underproductive, the morale liabilities and the just plain stupid” rarely take early retirement. The smart ones usually take the packages/pensions. The pensions offered are usually better (and safer) than what is on offer in the market place

Well, branch heads need some mechanism for getting rid of the malingerers, the chronically underproductive, the morale liabilities and the just plain stupid; other than putting them on “special projects” or (God forbid!) firing them.

and yet they keep offering the early retirements?

genius.
