cotter dam puggle

Actew Water have the adorable news that a baby platypus has been found exploring the new cotter dam wall:

A young male platypus had managed to scramble his way on to the dam wall, getting up close with the 80 metre high concrete construction. Little more than a puggle, the miniature monotreme had managed to scramble onto one of the upper steps.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Rachel Clarke said:

“Thousands of Canberrans regularly enjoy a close up view of the construction through our Dam Cam; however there are always those who want that more personal experience. Platypodes are generally very shy, but this little fella clearly lost all those inhibitions in his efforts to get the best possible view of the new Cotter Dam.”

While dazed and dehydrated the nine-month old male was none the worse for his odd adventure. Workers are still bemused as to how the platypus got there.

UPDATE: They’ve now got a story on returning Pete to the wild along with lots of photos.

You just don’t get this sort of thing by paying your CEO anything less than $855k per year.

Platypodes? Is that the new plural for platypus? I wonder what the next one will be?

Platypussies?

Nah, probably not.

Platypodes? Is that the new plural for platypus? First it was platypi, then platypusses then platypus and now platypodes. I wonder what the next one will be?
