Punching on for a DUI

A 17-year-old male was arrested yesterday morning (Sunday, March 20) for assaulting a police officer and drink driving.

About 2.45am police conducted a traffic stop on a gold Mitsubishi Magna in Bruce. The young man was breath tested and returned a positive reading. He was taken to Belconnen Police Station for a breath analysis where he recorded a reading of 0.105. He is subject to a 0.00 limit.

While at the station the young male has become extremely aggressive and punched one of the police officers. He was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House where he was later released with bail conditions.

The young man has been charged with driving while disqualified, drink driving and assaulting a commonwealth official. He will be summonsed to attend the ACT Children’s Court at a later date.

They don’t call it ROARING DRUNK for nothing. He would’ve probably taken on the tide given half a chance.

With all these drunken behaviour and associated crime being so prevalent these days is it time to resurrect King O’Malley’s legacy?

Come to think of it, what was a 17 y.o. doing consuming alcohol until he was roaring drunk??

Maybe read the news and heard about the crackdown on drink-driving, but also read the stories of recent assaults on police where the offender was bailed on-the-spot (if even charged) and figured he’d take his chances. Either way, it makes you wonder what exactly you have to do to get locked up until you face court, if assaulting a police officer .. in a police station, doesnt even make the break. fair enough if its a brawl in the city and there are 20 possible offenders.

No doubt he’ll receive a slap on the wrist and a few months good behaviour bond and be back out driving on our streets with a gut full of piss again next weekend.

I’m going to agree with you on this one.

Srsly, what 17 yo punches a police officer? Sounds cliche, but when I was 17 yo, I would have been mighty scared to be caught drink driving, let alone punching people in the situation. I have the feeling, we’ll be hearing more of this lad on the RiotAct in years to come…
