A 27-year-old Chifley man has been arrested after violently assaulting police in Fyshwick overnight.

Around 2am this morning (Tuesday, 19 July), police were conducting a patrol of Fyshwick then they saw a damaged white Mazda 626, stopped, in the middle of Gladstone Street. A man has then attended the vehicle and was spoken to by officers.

Information obtained from the owner of the vehicle indicated that the vehicle was possibly stolen, and the man was taken into custody for questioning.

While officers were conducting a search of the man, he violently grabbed one officer in a headlock and punched him numerous times in the face.

Police were forced to deploy oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray in accordance with AFP guidelines, and the man was arrested for assaulting police.

The officer was conveyed to The Canberra Hospital by ACT Ambulance Service after sustaining a number of facial injuries and a suspected broken hand.

The man was lodged at the ACT Watch House, where police located a quantity of substances, suspected to be methylamphetamine.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

I wish the papers would focus on the crap the Police have to deal with. I hope the poor PC gets better quickly!

IMO Stick him on the ground, two in the head. I think this is where I would fail as a police officer.

LOL – I suspect he will get off the charge by claiming he didn’t mean to hit the officer and the prosecution will fail to prove he intended to hit the officer. The officer’s head just got in the way of the offenders flailing fists…….. numerous times !!!!!

Canberra Times’ second last line reads “The man was due to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning but it is believed he didn’t appear.”

and in Thursday’s Canberra Times it was reported that he was released on police bail, from the Watchhouse.

I’m guessing the Canberra Times was staking out the courthhouse, and when he didn’t appear assumed the worst.

Why the police would bail him would make for an interesting PhD thesis.

this

Hope the Policemans okay. They are out there doing their job for the rest of the community – makes me angry to know that in all likelihood the dick that assaulted him will get off it quite easily.

I can’t believe they didn’t Rodney King the Mully.

Thanks P1, that is now in my vocabulary for life. Lets hope the case does not end up being “Masseyed”.

Masseyed
Mass – ee – d? ?/Masi’ed/ [Mass – ee – d]

–verb (used without object)
1. to proceed by or take a winding or indirect defence in court prior to making weird and innacurate claims: eg: I stabbed and disembowled him because I think I am a lesbian who may also be 1/200th Aboriginal.
2. to wander aimlessly; ramble: The skank masseyed on through the the proceedings to Justice Higgins delight.

I can’t believe they didn’t Rodney King the Mully. I don’t think I would have the self control to be a police officer. While the media go nuts whenever a cop is caught beating/spraying/tazing a “suspect” I am amazed it doesn’t happen more (not saying they should beat people, they really shouldn’t, but it is something I respect about most cops).

Druggy low-breeds – they are genital warts on society.

Obviously just another moron taking up space in the human race.

Well done again AFP – hope the officer concerned is okay.

Broke his hand how?

I’d hazard a guess because it found itself between his face and the clenched fist of the drug-f*kt cretin that had him in a headlock trying to thump seven different shades of sh*t out of him.

Seriously . . . the boys and girls of the plod don’t get paid enough for that crap. Hope the officer concerned mends (on any level you can think of) quickly.

Broke his hand how?

And even if was actually on him and not at the watch house, why wasn’t he searched before he ended up there?

Why wasn’t he just blown away the moment he started punching on with the coppers?

I wonder how many punches he got in while the cops partner whipped out the spray and tried to get a clean shot at his face and not blow his load all over his partner at the same time whereas a 9mm high velocity pill, delivered by a competant operator, can stop punches in less than a second……

You watch too many movies RAAFy…

Too much info on how cops spend their time in Fyshwick.

Jesus, seriously? The guy had already assaulted one of the officers. Maybe the other officer didn’t want to try searching an already violent meth-head who had just received a face full of OC spray until arriving back at the watch-house?

Just a hunch…

anyone want to start a book on the passage from monitored cell to the monitored interview room goes via an unmonitored stairwell? (As it should… a little rough play deserves a little rough justice)

Who’s keeping a stash of meth located in the ACT Watch House? Methinks the media release could do with some proofreading..
