According to Coles anyway. Walking through Coles in Belconnen, it seems that they’re getting ready to ramp up for easter by already having a section (even though it is small currently) dedicated to easter eggs. Sadly I didn’t have my phone with me to take a photo but seriously it has to be some kind of record for being this early.

Are we nearing the point where the shops just don’t put away the decorations and we get year round Christmas, Easter, Valentines day, Halloween or random holiday celebration.

Perhaps its time for ‘festivus’. Everyone gather around the pole.

They cater the demands of idiots who buy the stuff now, and they make money from it.

Hot cross buns are great with some jam and/or butter. I must be an idiot 🙁

The hot cross buns and easter eggs have been put out in supermarkets on boxing days for years and years, in small amounts. Why do they do it? because people go and buy them and go to the supermarket and ask for them. They cater the demands of idiots who buy the stuff now, and they make money from it.

Yes, what fools. How dare they like hot cross buns for more than three days of the year! Where will the madness end?

Not sure why someone who wants a hot cross bun is an idiot? Because someone said they are for easter only? They may normally buy raisan toast or something, and though hey hot cross buns, i like those too.

I just can’t see the issue, you don’t have to buy them. Same for eggs, although i do think more than a month out from easter is excessive.

Sorry but it’s not that unusual. Two years ago in Safeway (Woolies in Victoria) they had racks of hot cross buns on sale on Boxing Day. I am surprised I haven’t seen the same this year in Gungahlin.

Also – Cardeaux in the Canberra Centre lower food court had large Valentine’s Day displays up when I went past yesterday so am assuming they had been there a couple of days.

Today I saw Hot cross buns in a Dickson Supermarket.

Back to School is the next big event.

yebbut, when’s the father’s day guff about, s’what i wanna know… 🙂

Nah, noticed their seasonal/promotional area (around the roller door into the liquor store) had a bit of Australia Day tacky tacky around it first. Once that one’s past they’ll crack out the eggs.

Bear in mind this is likely last year’s stock.

Spot on.

yep this.

People complain that Easter Eggs are already on show but it’s funny the onces who complain the most are the ones buying them anyway – I’m thinking of getting in early this year so no one misses out – Maybe end of Jan is a good idea!

Anything for the elusive retail dollar eh.

we seem to have a government bent on “fixing” things maybe they can apply their talents to something useful and make a ruling that shops can’t have Christmas, Easter and other such things till 2 weeks before the events 😀

Speaking of hot cross buns – why are they so awful as a general rule? They’re spongy and resemble nothing more than that strange substance that McDonalds puts around their hamburgers which feels and tastes almost exactly like bread doesn’t.
