QANTAS Stitch Up ACT Govt

In a declaration of extreme thickheadedness the ACT Govt has signed a deal with QANTAS Travel to carry out all ACT Govt travel arrangements and is now trying to convince everyone that QANTAS will ensure that they will book with whichever airline provides the best price on the day according to this ABC report.

After alreadying seeing what the Federal Govt department deals with QANTAS Travel have done to all the airlines coming into Canberra (besides QANTAS) why does the ACT Govt think they will somehow be different? Just another nail in the coffin for those small airlines that were struggling to hold onto life and choice of airlines in Canberra.

Since when does anyone get a decent feed on qantas? This is a lazy, stupid decision by the ACT Govt (or at least the bureacrats responsible for it). That said I wouldn’t even regard small airlines as “small business” – I’m sick of this whole anti-small business mantra anyway.

I agree, for Virgin flights that aren’t those discount ones there isn’t much difference between them and Qantas. Its worth paying the extra few dollars for Qantas knowing you’ll get a decent feed.

As far as I can tell, its easier for me to just call the airline concerned and book my ticket. When i deal with qantas business, if its NOT a Qantas flight i need, they stick a $47 extra fee on top.

Of course after flying virgin blue and jetstar, im quite happy with qantas. more legroom. virgin also insists on us all being happy happy and taking part in singalongs. after charging me $5 for a muffin, im reluctant to sing and dance in praise of the lowcost airline thats squeezing me to death.

Still, this is yet another of the stupid anti-small business activities that the ACT Govt have done.
