Queanbeyan City Council will be repairing a collapsed sewer main at the intersection of Morisset and Collett Sts from Monday 20 June until Friday 26 June.
As the sewer main runs under the eastbound side of Morisset St there will be disruptions to traffic in the area.
• Morisset St will be closed to through traffic in an eastbound direction (heading towards the low-level bridge) between Crawford St and Carinya St. Access to the Woolworths and City Link Plaza carparks will not be affected.
• Collett St, between Morisset and Antill St, will be closed to traffic in both directions. Local access to carparks will not be affected.
• Drivers approaching the Collett St roundabout from the south (Queens Bridge direction) will only be able to turn left.Variable messages signs will be placed around the affected area and detour signs will be visible for drivers.
“About two metres of the sewer main was damaged during the December 2010 floods and since then Council’s Water and Sewer team has been investigating the problem,” Council’s General Manager, Mr Gary Chapman said.
“Due to significant damage caused the only option was to replace the affected part of the sewer main. The sewer main, which was installed in the 1940s, is 300mm in diameter and is located eight metres under Morisset St.
“Once the collapsed section has replaced the sewer main will be relined, extending the life of the main for another 50 years.
“There will be some traffic disruptions around the affected area during the week and residents are urged to avoid the area if possible. Council conducted a letter drop to surrounding businesses and residents alerting them to the disturbance.”
