Being the Queen’s birthday, the 2007 Queen’s birthday honours list was announced today. You can find out more about our honours system here. The full honours list can be viewed at the Governor-General’s website but unless you’re looking for someone in particular, there are far too many names to read.

Unfortunately, I can’t find a list of all the Canberrans honoured today. The closest I could find is a selection mentioned on Jon Stanhope’s media release.

So if you know someone who was honoured today, post a comment below telling us all a bit more about some of those people in Canberra who make a valuable contribution to the community.

I just read the list. My information must have been wrong, JB didn’t receive an honor. For shame!!!

Dennis Trewin, recently retired head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).

“For service to statistics as the Australian Statistician, particularly through the reform of reporting standards and practices and support for a range of national and international professional organisations, and to the community.”

There’s a list here:

Its actually a combined ACT/NSW list, but you could easily pick out the ACT people.

I want to congratulate Johnboy for receiving his OA for Services to Information Technology and Blogging!

Well done!

Good to see that honours only go to the undeserving – such as Annabelle Pegrum of the NCA whose OA must be for services to destroying Canberra.
