Quote of the Day - "I'm not surprised ... but this is Charnwood."

By the time I got into work last night police had been at an incident in Saywell Place Charnwood for 24 hours. All starting from a standard letterbox destuction on Friday night (not like hundreds of those haven’t happened since cracker night) this one turned unusual when it was discovered a pipe bomb was used and after warrants, etc several more were located and a 26 year old man was arrested.

The whole thing is front and 3rd page news on today’s CT (ABC Online has this), the best bit being a quote from Charnwood resident Chris Hall on page 3 – “I’m not surprised … but this is Charnwood.”

Pure gold.

and Charnwood Heights of as well right ?

pfft all I can say is “I told you so…”

And to those saying that the so called fireworks where shaking their houses – they were probably IED’s – get an engineers report to ensure your house is habitable if your so worried – if not – dont… Easy…

There are Amish in Holt? At least the big boom will keep them there

Or like Charnwood on any given weekend ?

Maybe Charnwood declared War on Holt and was invading with their pipe bombs.

I heard a big boom in Holt on Friday night (Saturday morning) around 1amish…

I think the police would have been right to treat these IEDs with some caution. Having dabbled in them during my miss-spent youth, I can attest to their unpredictable nature.

Yep, Charny.

Canberra’s answer to Mt Druit.

found this report on the Canberra Times website

Don’t underestimate the danger of pipe bombs. Their small, tightly sealed enclosure means even a device that may be small in physical size can produce a very large explosion. Furthermore, the fragmentation of the pipe can cause very serious shrapnal injuries. This ratio of size of device to size of explosion means that low yield and easily obtainable explosives may be used to produce a very large explosions.

The Centennial Olympic Park Bombing in Atlanta in 1996 shows just how much damage can be done by relatively small deivices. 111 people were injured. Charnwood would not have been as busy at the time as that park in Atlanta was, but when dealing with explosive devices, prompt and careful action must be taken. I think the Police acted responsibly.

Thanks guys wrote that at the end of a long shift. Fixed now.

And pipe bombs kill people. Ususally the people making them but they still kill people.

All this for pipe bombs?

yes, it was Chris Hall of DonNison place. double n.

for anyone whos interested, the police blocked off the entire street and the one it connects to, they had police blocking the footpaths and until midnight they were detonating the pipe bombs in the street.

it was all lit up by massive stadium lights and they had everything there! I’ve never seen so many police cars in one area!

classic

Wasn’t it Chris Hall of Donison Place?

And just if SES wasn’t busy enough up in Newcastle, the SES assisted the AFP last night (along with multiple other jobs the last week…)

Don’t hold your breath waiting for something to appear on the Online CT. What a joke that thing is.
