Just for the record (and to help with locations during the flyover), here is the original press release about the flyover…

AIR FORCE CANBERRA FLYOVER AND COMMEMMORATION CEREMONY RECOGNISES 87 YEARS

WHAT: The Royal Australian Air Force will celebrate its 87th birthday this Monday,
31 March 2008.

WHEN: The event will commence at 1.00pm.

WHO: The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Procurement, the Hon. Greg Combet MP;
Chief of Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC, AFC; and Chief of Air
Force, Air Marshal Geoff Shepherd AO, will attend the ceremony.

WHERE: The ceremony will take place at the Air Force Memorial on ANZAC Parade.

Three Hawk aircraft from No. 76 Squadron, based at RAAF Base Williamtown, will
conduct a flypast over Canberra between 1.35pm and 1.55pm on 31 March 2008.

At 1.40pm the aircraft will flypast west to east over the RAAF Memorial on ANZAC
Parade and complete a flypast south to north up ANZAC Parade towards the Australian
War Memorial at 1.45pm and turn right to overhead the Australian Defence Force
Academy then east west along Lake Burley Griffin to overhead the National Museum,
turn left to overhead Parliament House and depart north up Northbourne Avenue.

The three Hawk aircraft from Air Force’s No. 76 Squadron is the primary training
squadron for pilots transitioning to fast jet aircraft.

Crabb, I think they would have been at about 300m (1000ft) during most of their time over the city.

Does anyone know how low they were likely to have been flying when they came through Gungahlin yesterday? It sounded like they were skimming the roof tops! But they were well gone by the time I got outside.

The same Hawks. Maybe they where parked at Canberra Airport for the evening.

Hawks again, but I don’t know if they were the same ones or not. I only saw two this time around.

Hawks yesterday – what was it that just flew over the city now? Far more raucous then the hawk that zipped past my window yesterday.

So that was the cause of the noise overhead! We were sitting in our office wondering what was going on.

Nice photos.

I was wondering what all the noise was a few hours ago – I work in Bruce and heard them fly over, presumably on their way to the city. Thanks for sharing!

Nice photos. Thanks for posting.
