Raiderettes trials

In the name of intrepid journalism, I ventured out to Belconnen this afternoon to bring you all photos of the Raiderettes trials.

There were maybe 40 girls learning a routine while I was there, with another bunch waiting to have their turn.

The girl in the camouflage pants at the left of this picture was teaching the routine. I presumed she was one of last year’s bunch of Raiderettes.

There was much posing involved in the bit of routine I saw. All the girls seemed to be competent at it and certainly did much better than I could have done.

One of the feature moves was a straddle jump, for those who were able to do it (I did think the group who said they could do it were probably at an advantage in terms of getting the gig).

For more eye candy pictures of the girls trying out, click here.

Strangely unnoticed by the media, Paris Hilton appeared to have come to try out.

The marque of class…

A couple of the girls had extravagant piercings.

And most were concentrating on the routine, rather than noticing the roaming cameras.

Obviously the Raiders girls are trained ballet/jazz dancers and gymnasts and haven’t had the prior training in the American style, so Sammy you must be an american style cheerleader or have something to do with them why don’t you offer your services instead of offering them to us,show your leadership, if you want to promote the sport you know so much about, why not bring it and maybe organise with the raiders to help, got any guys that would do it???, and pandy, after some investigation most of the NRL squads have no association with gymnastics australia, did you mean crop tops for ugly raiderette’s? i have been to heaps of games where the girls have tried to get the crowd going, not sure if it is just Canberra, but the crowd’s here are not as vocal as they are in the AFL etc

Thank you Kerces for going where no male would have been game to pull out a camera…
…unless it was mounted in a shoe, right???

Oh, sorry, that would be Melbourne/tennis…

I say good on ’em all, and I hope they all do well even if they don’t get into the Raiderettes.

Better them doing this than shooting up in an alleyway, or hanging around the mall all day long.

Thank you Kerces for going where no male would have been game to pull out a camera…

At least it wasn’t “The Boyfriend”.

Ohhhh, you were in that one…

Can I ask what musical you weren’t dancing in, Thumper?

All-singing, all-dancing, all-Thumper?

Urine stains!!! Arrgh!!!!!!

I’m not going to say anything on the grounds that it may incriminate me… I’ll just leave the pictures to do the talking…

I think that means, Pandy, that she prefers not to wear them.
-And in this weather, that’s a sensible option.

Undies? Y-fronts? Cotten tails? what is your preference then?

Straddle jumps should be compulsory
Without panties

I may be out on a limb here, but I hate the word “panties”.

I blame any lack of respect on Mondayitis

I don’t think there’s anything that untoward in the captions, I-filed. The first page describes what was taking place at the trials.

The Paris Hilton comment was because her height, long platinum blond hair and rather orange skin tone looked to me much like those of the famous heiress.

And as for “captioning with more respect for these admirable girls”, I would have thought the comment “and certainly did much better than I could have done” conveyed my respect for them fairly well. Are you one of them? Or the partner of one? To have had such an adverse reaction?

I agree, I-filed. Surveys have also shown that they have a keener intellect, sharper wit and a greater appreciation for cultural activities than the average ACT female.

*cough*

These girls are focused athletes – why the unpleasant “Paris Hilton” observation? That tone accompanying the pictures invited some crass comment. There isn’t that much of a leap from inviting lewd comment like this to editorially sanctioning sexual assault . If only you’d captioned the pictures with a bit more respect for these admirable girls.

Dont forget, they wave their pom poms when something good happens.

Aussies sorta just dance around to music

At points in a Raiders home game when the team really looks like they could use a lift (like the entire season), the cheerleaders are usually sitting on their arses attempting to keep warm in their skimpy outfits.

Typically the crowd will sense that momentum is building, and start chanting “RAIDERS” or somesuch. This is the point when the cheerleaders should be up off their arses encouraging the chant.

Cheer: shout for joy or in praise or encouragement

Leader: the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country

Someone needs to let them know what the purpose of a cheerleader is. I don’t believe it’s to provide a half-arsed dance routine at half-time.

Out of all the Cheerleading routines I’ve seen performed by Aussie girls whilst supporting whatever football team, none of them strike me as very ‘American’. “Maybe the two styles could combine and create something that is not SO American I may be wrong here but from what I’ve witnessed of American Cheerleading, they toss themselves in the air, have male cheerleaders, and actually cheer. Aussies sorta just dance around to music.

It’s softporn in real life – another great step for the repression of feminism by their own kind.

There’s nothing like amusing ones self at the irony…

As I read earlier – steriotypes make my life sooo much easier – why do they think that trying out for the raiderettes is anything remotely similar to Flashdance or Fame (and dress accordingly) though ?

Look aussie, Gymnastic australia said they were banning crop tops. The Raiderettes were part of them. So what is the story now?

uumm,, ok so where were the Gymnastic cheerleaders, why didn’t they audition,, maybe the two styles could combine and create something that is not SO American, and crop tops seriously what is people’s problems, can you yourself not wear one is that why you mention it??so this should mean that triathlete’s, athlete’s, ballroom dancers, everyday women in the gym & bikin’s should be banned from crop tops, or showing their torso. please. give them a break, they were fantastic in the first footy show, they did do flips, tumbles, and even the so called american stunts, and they danced, they must have a bit of talent,, maybe a bit too much for sinsations though

did the flashbeer guy turn up ?

Strangely unnoticed by the media, Paris Hilton appeared to have come to try out

I don’t think she looks much like Paris, but she does bear an uncanny resemblance to Annalise Braakensick.

Pandy, there are gymnastic cheerleaders in Aus, hell, there are gymnastic cheerleaders here in Canberra.

And, if I am informed correctly, there will be a demo today (Monday) at around 7:30pm in the front of the Canberra Theatre (near the fountain).

Cheerleading in Australia should involve boys like they do in the States with gymnastic routines. then we need a Drumline too.

Anyone know if the Raiderettes will cease with showing their midriffs (so as not to offend the fugly ones)? Gymnastic Australia whom i believe the Raiderettes are part of said they were going to ban the showing thereof.

the munchkin in that last photo with her hair over her faces looks like
a) a gibbon
b) that girl doin the stomp-dance that has been photochopped into every possible scenario. Come on, you know the one i mean.

Were the occasional blokes in the shots supportive boyfriends, just there for the cheap perve, part of a boy-raiderette sideproject, or are they in fact girls who just look very blokish?

It should be called “The Raiderettes: Face it, you’re one step away from Sinsations”
