The Canberra Raiders are very happy with the first five rounds of the NRL draw announced today:

Raiders CEO Don Furner said it’s great to see the club getting some recognition for their efforts at the back end of 2010 by securing a Friday night home match and said he hoped to see a full house in round one against the Sharks as well.

“We don’t often get the chance to play on a Friday night especially at home, so it’s exciting for the club, the players and most importantly the fans,” Furner said. “We start on March 13 against the Sharks at home and hopefully we can get a big crowd behind the team to start the season.”

The First Five are:

Round 1 – Sunday March 13, Raiders v Sharks, Canberra Stadium, 2.00pm

Round 2 – Friday March 18, Raiders v Broncos, Canberra Stadium, 8.30pm

Round 3 – Monday March 28, Tigers v Raiders, Campbelltown Sports Ground, 7.00pm

Round 4 – Saturday April 2, Raiders v Titans, Canberra Stadium, 5.30pm

Round 5 – Saturday April 9, Panthers v Raiders, Penrith Stadium, 7.30pm

My season ticket arrived yesterday! With the imminent signing of Orford, things are looking good for 2011.

Good stuff.

Most importantly, I think I can speak for all NRL fans when I say thank f**** that there are no Friday night St George-Illawarra games scheduled in the first five rounds. Watching those guys on TV every Friday night for the past two seasons has been hell.

I don’t think you can speak for all NRL fans- some of us do follow the Dragons I’ll have you know! But I also did get sick of all the friday night games, as I like to get up to Sydney for a few games and without taking time off work its almost impossible.

Good stuff.
