The Canberra Raiders are letting it be known they’ve got 8,000 lime green fans willing to pay for a season membership with the first home game coming up.

The Canberra Raiders have received a timely boost ahead of their first home game of the season, crashing through the 8000 member mark for 2013.

The Raiders membership total sits at 8221, with more members signing or re-signing this week as the team this prepares for their first trip to Canberra Stadium for 2013 to face the Dragons on Sunday night at 6.30pm.

The Raiders will be holding their members only day tomorrow at the Stadium from 10.00am-12.00pm, with members having the chance to meet the NRL squad ahead of the game and to get autographs and photos with their favourite players.

There will be tours of the change room available, while members will all get the chance to sample the new and improved Raiders Lime, thanks to match day sponsor Canberra Milk.

Members are reminded to bring their 2013 membership cards along to gain entry to the event (Western Entry to Canberra Stadium), or if they have not yet received them their membership details.

According to the NRL, they broadcast free to air games that will give them the best revenue. That to me, is spitting in the faces of league fans.
Every club should get equal airplay on free TV as far as possible.
If as the OP suggests, the Raiders will only be on free to air in round 16, but are on top of the ladder in say, round 10, what happens then?
Don’t get me started on WIN showing 50 year old movies on their HD channel and the NRL in SD. Fox show all footy in HD.
NRL fans in Canberra are surrounded by c***s.

I just found out that Canberra is only getting one free to air game in round 16. The NRL/Channel 9 are once again snubbing Canberra in favour of so called “glamour” clubs. I did email the NRL who sent back this reply which to me seems they are more interested in profit than fans. Here is their reply,

Thank you for your email.

We certainly understand the frustration of all Raiders fans who wanted to see the mighty Green Machine receive more free to air matches.

A key factor throughout the new broadcast rights negotiation was driving overall revenue for the game both now and into the future while ensuring the best quality broadcasts for fans. The combined value of the Nine and Fox Sports offer was assessed by the broadcast rights negotiating team and there was no doubt in their mind that it was the strongest offer.

While the Raiders have not at this stage received the free to air coverage they would want and, as you point out, deserve, they, like all clubs, will certainly benefit from the increased funding from this deal which will help ensure the financial security of all clubs moving forward. It was also considered important for members to try and secure a more fixed match schedule to assist them in planning to attend games and that was an important factor that the Nine and Fox offer included.

The broadcast revenues that have been secured have also helped provide an increase in payments for player, which were also deserved.

Canberra possesses one of our most passionate supporter bases and it is one of the reasons why this year we are hosting the Australia v New Zealand Test in Canberra at Canberra Stadium on Friday, April 19, 2013.

he Test will be the highlight of a week-long Rugby League celebration that will feature a host of community and corporate events showcasing the game’s connection with the local region as part of Canberra’s Centenary celebrations as the nation’s capital.

I look forward to any opinions that you have.

“…members will all get the chance to sample the new and improved Raiders Lime…”

Ahh, Raiders Lime. Who could forget the awful combination of citrus and milk that was so bad that big Mal had to mime drinking it in the original TV advert? Although the new and improved recipe mightn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth, the current performance of the team sure will.

Pic is of Dugan, Ferguson and Earl, right??

If the team plays like they have the first 2 weeks, they’ll be drafting members to play the games and see if they are better than the actual team.

After seeing that picture, I wouldn’t be surprised if numbers dropped.
