Foxsports brings word of a great Raiders start to the season with Cronulla flogged 40-12:

The Sharks were unable to stop the Raiders from piling on the points as the Green Machine that rolled into the 2010 NRL finals continued from where they left off last year.

Compounding the Sharks’ woes was the sending off of hooker Paul Aiton in the 74th minute for headbutting Raiders centre Joel Thompson.

Canberra also suffered a couple of setbacks.

Captain Alan Tongue injured an AC joint after a shoulder charge on Cronulla prop Kade Snowden in the opening minutes and took no further part in the match, while prop Brett White was placed on report for knee lifting.

Go team.

Yes, a great win . . . but someone please tell me that the cross field bomb is not going to be the Raiders’ constant go-to play all year. They practiced it over and over at training on Saturday, and sure enough out it came on Sunday.

Hopefully it was a specific tactic against an identified Sharks’ weakness.

Well done Raiders! Fantastic that we’ve got so much depth – there wouldn’t be too many teams that would be able to rack up a win with injuries to their 1, 6, and 7. Williams is a great young talent, and Ferguson and White are fantastic acquisitions.

For mine, Williams was a deserved man of the match, with White, TLL, McBone and Ferguson all standouts.

Cant wait for the Donkeys on Friday night.

Great stuff – especially with Campese, Orford and Dugan not playing and Tongue and Picker going off injured.

Fantastic game from Sam Williams in his NRL debut, too.

Man of the Match on debut for Sam Williams, well done that man. Crossfield bomb for a try and a 40-20. Campo and Orford might even be a little nervous now. Great stuff raiders!

Yeah, good win but how bad are the Sharks? I think any team would’ve put 30 or 40 plus on them based on that performance.

Having said that, I reckon if they are lucky with injuries this year, they have the ability to make the top 4 – and that’s coming from a non-Raiders fan.
