The NRL has announced that the Canberra Raiders have gotten into a spot of bother for muffing their obligations under the salary cap, again.

They’ve been fined $31, 657, which we’re sure is an amount that makes sense to someone.

The National Rugby League has today outlined Salary Cap breaches against the Wests Tigers, the Gold Coast Titans, the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Parramatta Eels and the Canberra Raiders following the completion of all audits into the 2010 season.

The largest breach notice is in relation to the Wests Tigers, who claimed a ‘long serving player allowance’ contrary to advice from the Salary Cap audit team.

The remaining breaches across four clubs concern the use of second tier players and the categorisation of education grants, accommodation and termination payments.

its a reasonable question turkey but if you actually look at the details of the breach, I hardly think the dragons breach is in the same league as the systematic rorting of the Storm (and neither are any of the other ones)… i.e the club statement said that the breach was:

“The breach related to an interpretation relating to the categorisation of an education grant for a NYC Player on a traineeship, who did not play NRL.”

The problem is the salary cap is so complex and ridiculously confusing that pretty much every year a bunch of teams get done for stupid things like this. But the NRL couldn’t run a chook raffle, let alone something like this.

So, why aren’t the Dragons stripped of their honors from last year then, humiliating them the same way as were the Dogs and Storm in previous breaches???? Fair for one, fair for all!!! The whole game is an absolute joke in terms of politics and bad refereeing decisions. If it weren’t for our own family footy tipping comp and the lack of anything else to watch on the Friday and Saturday nights, I’d probably be watching football [ie., the game commonly known as soccer].

Instead of fining the mighty raiders $31,657 they should strip us of our competition points. All two of them.

Under the salary cap are their obligations to engage players that can actually play football?

Based on their performance they are overpaid as it is….
