The Canberra Raiders have unveiled their Centenary of Canberra jersey.

The Canberra Raiders will be joining in on Canberra’s Centenary Celebrations, when they wear a special Centenary Jersey against the Broncos on June 10 (Monday) at Canberra Stadium.

The jersey was officially launched today at the top of the iconic Canberra landmark Telstra Tower, with Raiders stars Terry Campese, Josh Papalii, Paul Vaughan and Mark Nicholls on hand to model the new strip.

The jersey design is based on a mix of the early representative strips of the first official ACT based representative rugby league teams which were established in the 1970’s. Before this time players from the ACT represented the region via the Monaro representative team.

The Canberra Raiders were established in 1982 after gaining submission into the NSW Rugby League (now NRL) and this jersey design is a celebration of the progression of the local competition developing into a national sporting organisation.

I can see your point, but the C100 celebrations are for an entire century of Canberra, and the Raiders form a significant part of that history as our first and only top-grade league team. This should have been reflected on the jersey alongside local and rep foundation teams. The design they’ve come up with provides no visual context or explanation and will probably confuse anyone who hasn’t read the back story.

I can already see the hashtag #canberramatta getting a workout on game day.

Then again I still don’t like the predominantly white Brumbies uniform, the old blue and yellow Canberra Kookaburras jersey was perfectly fine!

I would like to see Robyn Archer decked out in the new gear leading the Raiders onto the field on the big day.
I reckon she would get a real buzz.

According to WIN, the socks are to be voted upon by Raiders fans, as part of the centenary uniform.

What’s with the socks? Are they meant to be all different or have some of the players put them on backwards? (I know, I know, but they are league players so you never know)

And, yes, why have they moved away from the green – even their usual uniform isnt very green nowdays

I think the Brumbies’ new socks are far more fetching, and less confusing:

I think you’ll find one set are for home and the other away as demonstrated by the two sets of shorts.

But they are only wearing the uniform for one match (at home)…

Have the Raiders been taken over by the Eels? The Blue Machine doesn’t sound quite right.

Giving Josh Papalii a little taste of what he has forgone?

The V could have been more bolder and lifted higher up the jumper.

It’s not a V, it’s an arrow of sorts pointing to their favourite play thing…

well it looks like they have a flower bouquet from Floriade on their jumper.

Would that be the cockpit?

This is why I never want a job with a uniform.

Imagine coming into work one day and being handed something like this, and told you have to wear it.

On Telstra tower for some reason.

Very few people (mostly those who decided on the design) will understand the significance of the blue and yellow jersey. IMO it would have been much better to have a split design with an area representing the Raiders, and a prominent panel reflecting the foundation organisations, and the C100 logo.

What we have now looks like the Raiders merged with Parramatta.

How about less money on new jerseys – it’s not like that will make you win…………………just concentrate on playing and winning.

Have the Raiders been taken over by the Eels? The Blue Machine doesn’t sound quite right.
