Despite some dramas with the line up the Raiders have triumphed 39-14 against the Newcastle Knights according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Andrew Johns broke down again, the rugger-buggers are mighty pleased the insane NSW plot to bring him into the light came to naught.

Dave you are correct about the halves combination. I think Withers is going to be the half back that McLinden wasnt. Joey was nver 100% and was limping in the warmup. The paper said it was a hip flexor injury but his knee was packed in ice. He is not anywhere near 100% but he couldnt have saved the Knights. I think the Raiders pack maybe making steps to become one of the comps most physical, as they were in 2003. If they can hold it together all year I think they will be very hard to beat at Bruce, and a couple of away wins will see them easily in the 8

Go the ****in RAIDERS!!!!!

We’re gonna win the title!!!!

and just so noone takes me as some sort of Rugby hater, I used to watch local Grand Finals, the once mighty Royals take on everyone else in every grade 🙂 I was also at Manuka in the “Dave Giffen” stand each week in the Brumbies first season… But the crowd these days – 50% true rugby supporters, 50% Subaru Outback driving (the Volvo of the 00’s) image chasing latte sipping tossers.

I watched the replay of the Raiders game today – they actually played all right considering the guys missing. Newcastle are in big trouble this year though…

Growling Ferret – agree.
Vg – agree.

Poster number 1 is the reason why Canberra no longer has a national basketball or soccer team.

When Perth snatch half the Brumbies players they’ll be on the slippery slope.

The Knights will be wooden spoon contenders this year because they spent all their money to keep Johns, and weren’t able to afford other decent players like Tahu and Ben Kennedy.

Bless thy Raiders!

Some Sydney tipping comps had the Raiders as favourites for the wooden spoon. I suspect it is more about Canberra Bashing than anything else.

Thought that the new halves combination worked a treat.

Ahh, Rugby League as the voice of auhenticity in this topsy turvy world.

i remember a day not so many years ago where you where shunned by all and sundry for mentioning you were a rugby player. now a few years down the track and a couple of s12 trophies later everyone is on the brumbies band wagon. lose a few games and we’ll see how fickle the canberra crowds are once again, and they’ll sip their chardonnay elsewhere.

us die hards will be there through the thick and thin. to be honest I’ve never seen so many people spectate at a game where so few actually know the rules

Unlike the Brumbies crowd of 22000, the 11000 Raiders crowd actually watched the game, not each other in a pathetic attempt to “be seen”

Its difficult to compare crowds though – the Brumbies only have 5 or 6 home games a year in the warmer months vs 13 or 14 home games for the Raiders…

And in a perfect world, the Roos would pack out Manuka every time as well 🙂

I thought 11K was considered a good crowd for the raiders?

If they stand around at the next brumbies game and give tickets to those that can’t get it. They might get a crowd. What a joke first game of the year and only 11000 spectators. I am only guessing half of them were freebies.
