ACT Diversity Hub Parking Lot

People seems to be concerned that the Diversity ACT Hub would not be a significant source of rainbows for the residents of Kambah.

To allay your fears, here are some snaps to show those Diversity ACT people are miles ahead of us.

Hopefully, rainbow pedestrian crossings are next on the Diversity agenda.

Welcome to Kambah, LGBTI Community. 🙂

This will be the day I will leave Canberra. What is next, allow them to publicly show their affection? We, heterosexuals, will soon be a minority. WTF?
I even had to throw away an awesome, expensive kite that we had for years, because it is in rainbow colours, I would not want to be seen flying it now, as rainbow is associated with LGBT s*** lately.
F***ing “rainbow people”…

Strange, I always thought your user name was a contraction of Diversity Hub…

I assumed DUB was posting in jest! Surely!

Rainbows discriminate against colour-challenged people. Who do I complain to?

So do traffic lights, Skittles and Parrots.

Damn! I was wondering why that magpie I was feeding had a curved beak!

@ Ben_Dover – I apologise for clairvoyantly ascribing a motive to you; I was getting into internet rant mode, how embarrassing. :S

Is it because this group has a rainbow? Or because they have moved into different accommodation? Or Is it their sexuality that is confronting

Or is it because setting people apart does not enabel integration?

That this organisation caters and is geared to meet the needs of a particular demographic is hardly unique – so why all the hating?

No hating on my part, just questioning.

The Community Sector is chokkers with organisations that cater to the needs of special or just particular groups. There is nothing to suggest that Diversity ACT in any way excludes non LGBTI people and more than
– Winnunga refuses health care to non-Indigenous people (i know they don’t)
– the Australian Rugby Choir sings only at Rugby events
– the ten or so Australian Men’s Shed Association locations in Canberra refuses entry to women
– Catholic Schools refuse non-Catholics

I could continue in extraordinarily boring detail, but really.

Take that up with the God[ess] of your choice.

That’s how all this s*** started in the first place…

Sigh – Diversity ACT probably spend a lot of their time making the people involved feel considerably less like pariahs that some people on here are clearly trying to do

The organisation does a lot of counselling and support as well as the more fun stuff like Drag make up classes from one of the best Divas in Canberra (I am tempted to go to that), cooking classes and book clubs; the list goes on.

Well I do not imaging that the ‘straight’ drag makeup classes would be exempting the gay community, nor do I imgine thet cookery classes and book clubs in Canberra are run by homophobes.

If it comes to that, can you let us know which councelling /support services in Canberra exclude gays?

The Hub is more than 100 metres from the nearest residential property, surrounded by parkland, playing fields and trees. It was [I think] previously a child care centre; a bit of colour is unlikely to cause anyone in Kambah indigestion or inconvenience.

The site is a lot less intrusive than the community garden, scout hall and the barbeque area that just up the road. Those facilities are considerably closer to and less screened from the nearby housing and the local residents seem to manage admirably..

Tha’s good then.

These new premises in Kambah will promote and advance the social rights and reduce discrimination against LGBTI persons,” the Chief Minister said.

The facility will provide a service hub, a support network and a community resource that will support the aspirations and full acceptance of LGBTI members of the Canberra community.

How? He asked yet again, not expecting an answer….

Dear god, if I lived next door to that garish monstrosity, I’d be out at night with a bucket of white paint.

Nothing against poofs, lezzers, or inbetweeners/undecideds, just against bad taste.

Perhaps your antipathy against bad taste is more selective than you realise?

Ya like flying kites do ya? Heh, sounds to me like you’re a bit queer.

Seriously though people, if someone will come pick me up from my house and take me to the hardware I’ll buy the paint and we can reduce our population by at least one monkey-brained redneck 😀

Rainbows discriminate against colour-challenged people. Who do I complain to?

DUB will find that “they” are allowed to publicly show their affection as much as any of “us”.

If a rainbow crossing is all that is required for him to leave Canberra, I think it is probably something worth working towards.
