A police vehicle was struck by a stolen car and damaged early this morning (Tuesday, February 8) after an incident in Duffy.
Around 1.40am today police were conducting a mobile patrol of Duffy, on an unsealed link road off the Cotter Road, when they found an abandoned maroon Holden Statesman which had been recorded as stolen.
While investigating the stolen vehicle, police also heard another vehicle nearby. Further down the road, they saw a Mitsubishi Magna wagon with ACT registration plates and two males on board driving toward them.
As the Magna conducted a U-turn in front of the police vehicle and attempted to flee, police have pulled in front of the vehicle and come to a complete stop with warning lights and siren activated.
The driver of the Magna deliberately accelerated toward the police vehicle, hit the front passenger’s side, and driven off. No officers were injured. The Magna was later determined to have been stolen.
Woden and Tuggeranong General Duties police conducted extensive patrols of the area seeking the stolen car but failed to locate it.
Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the stolen maroon Mitsubishi Magna wagon, which will have damage to the driver’s front side. If anyone should see this vehicle, they are urged to report its location to Police Operations on 131-444.
