City Rangers have brought about law and order in the illegal dumping game accoring to this media release from John Hargreaves.

They’ve handed out 14 on the spot fines and reduced dumping around charity bins by upto 90% in some cases. So either its the same 14 people who are doing all the dumping around Canberra and once caught they’ve decided not to do it again or somebody is creating stats to prove results. I’ll let you guess which one I think it is.

erm… maybe not. to both the covert surveillance cameras and also to the suggestion that it is either only 14 people or they are cooking the books.

the step-up in enforcement and the very steep fines were widely publicised and i am sure they had a deterent effect

what i want to know is why this is such an issue – people just want to dispose of lots of stuff? give it to charity? and that’s a problem? maybe what we need is more bins or a pickup service or something

Good on em!

You only have to go around the charity bins in Tuggeranong Town Centre (next to the Lifestyle Centre), or the recycling centre in Tuggers to see the junk dumped by deadbeats.

Covert surveillance cameras needed!
