This week, the second RAW:natural born artists event of the year will be taking place at the Uni Pub.
Showcase director Sarina Del Fuego has lined up an amazing group of 30 creative people and you can check them out on Wednesday night.
She sources new talent by seeing shows, exhibitions and also online – she looks for talent and creativity which will benefit from the support and promotion of RAW: Natural Born Artists.
Other opportunities for new artists to participate in the showcase come from word-of-mouth or existing RAW Artists that just want to share the experience. They also have sign-up sheets at the event so you can get more information about future events and chances to be involved.
I was lucky enough to get an invite to the first showcase, and I was blown away by the talent and awesome setup.
They had artists on each level whose mediums were one or more from a long list including independent film, performing art, fashion, music, hairstylists, makeup artists visual artists.
Never heard of RAW:natural born artists? It’s an independent organisation run by artists, for artists. Their goal is to give emerging artists a forum for exposure and opportunity to show their work where many might see it.
RAW currently showcases in almost 60 cities across the Australia, the US, Canada and the UK.

You can buy tickets at the door or online, and I would recommend getting there early to beat the queue, especially now that the nights have no warmth left in them whatsoever.
Speaking of warmth, if you attended the last event you would also remember that it was EXTREMELY hot on Level 3 – don’t let this put you off! I almost missed out on my biggest buy of the night by leaving in a rush, but luckily a friend advised me to head back in and promised I wouldn’t regret it when I bumped into him outside.
Doff your coat and make sure you take the time to check out the artists on each level – between taking the stairs up and down as well as the awesome cocktails you will find you only need your jacket outside.
RAW events are a really great opportunity to find out about artists you’ve never heard of as well as some you might have seen before but would like to meet or see more of.
If you can’t use the stairs, don’t fret, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the lifts actually came when called and didn’t leave you waiting for years to get up and down.
The next showcase won’t be until July so make sure if you can spare the $15 and a couple of hours that you come and see what RAW:Canberra is all about.
