Hi

I’m new here. Been lurking for a while but wanted to ask for some advice.

I will soon be getting a reverse cycle air con (split system) for the home and wondered if anyone knew of any good installers, either ones who sell and install or just install.

Thanks

Hey guys.

Hope it’s okay to resurrect this thread – am after recent instalation recommendations 🙂

I have a middle floor unit with a balcony, and was thinking of purchasing the unit online and then getting it installed.

Reading previous advice it looks like M&R are to be avoided? I have tried Air Turners, also based on this thread, but so far responsiveness and helpfulness is abysmal. Hoping to get some happy stories before i pick the first Google suggestion 🙂

Cheers!

We got our aircon installed recently by Southern Aircon Canberra. Honestly, the best experience I have had so far! Usually the guys come in, don’t really explain much, just do their thing and leave. But these guys were very helpful and informative. I would definitely recommend them for sure!

Not installation, but I recently had Bliss Air Conditioning out to regas an air conditioner. Very happy with the service and the price.

I used home improvement pages to find a repairer with lots of good reviews 😉

I used Scandia to install a evaporative cooling system. They did a very good job and I highly recommend them. Easy to deal with, reasonable, friendly and quality service.

Installed January 25th 2016.

Oh I also found that where they cut holes for the ducts they just left the gyproc in the ceiling too.

Means if you ever take the ducting out and want to fill in the holes you have the gyprock of the right dimensions right there. Seems like a good idea to me.

I recently had a new evap & ducted gas installed by M & R Air. They did a fantastic job could not faulter the guys. I have had them in the past put split systems into my rentals and not only were they great with their costing they did a fantastic job. I guess you have to have a personality to succeed and these guys were great. I would use them again in the future.

A +1 for Scandia. I found them really good to deal with and the installations (heating and cooling) were perfect. Have had no problems whatsoever.

Heating and Cooling Services do a very good job and are very reasonably priced. Also, the ActewAGL energy shop in Fyshwick are also really good, though have only used them for a ducted system. Well priced and very quick to get back to you.

Avoid M&R Air at all costs!

I would be giving heating and cooling services a miss too. Had them install an evap system about 2 years ago. Then this summer one of my downlights started playing up, so hopped in the roof to find that when they installed one of the ducts the transformer was in the way so they removed it from the truss and dropped into the insulation, which in my house is loose fill. It seems as if over time the transformer made it’s way under the insulation onto the ceiling where it was starting to leave a nice burn mark.

I reckon the only thing that saved the house going up in flames was the over temp cutout on the transformer, which of course is what was causing the light to play up.

I called them a couple of times and the person I needed to speak to was never there and they never returned my calls. I also sent an email with pics and never received a response. Sad thing is all they had to do was rescrew the transformer on another part of the truss. The cable lengths would have allowed it, so really sloppy work that could have ended a lot worse.

Terrible about the transformer, that is downlight dangerous.
As for the Gyprock being left in ceiling – standard practice for most trades. Why bother getting rid of the rubbish when it is nicely hidden where nobody can see it. If you’d not gone to investigate, it would have been there forever and not been an issue. Think of the tonnes of landfill not being sent by clever workers. I think it’s a brilliant idea.

We used Scandia for an Evap system install. The sales guy was friendly and knew his stuff. The installer was a knowledgable guy who didn’t complain (2 story 60’s Duplex with lots of hardwood and old insulation) and did a very neat job. He knew and explained all the little tricks to making the system as efficient as possible. Been keeping us cool for the last 5 years now.

We’ve used Scandia a couple of times now, for ducted gas. Completely satisfied both times. I’d hope their AC installations were just as good.

M and r were fantastic for my install
$750 for a basic back to back. Quick efficient and organised. They did a dam tidy job too!

Why no recommendations for Jeff Manny????

Ba-hah-hah nice one.

We’ve used Scandia for air con installs in two houses. Very good pre and post sales service, reasonable prices and great work.

It depends on what you buy. I got a Daikin split system installed about 10 years ago by one of the Daikin dealers (there are only 3, and it wasn’t the ActewAGL shop – can’t remember which of the other 2 it was).

It wasn’t the cheapest deal around, but they did an excellent job, and the unit hasn’t missed a beat It sailed through the drought and the bushfires, and costs very little to run – hardly made a blip on my electricity bills. It came with a 5 year unconditional guarantee short of seriously abusing it.

The advantage of using an accredited dealer to do the installation is that they know the product, plus they have something to lose if they screw up the installation – they have to come back and fix it or risk grief from head office if you complain about the service.

Daikin and Mitsubishi both have a good reputation for split systems – not always the cheapest up front, but reliable and very economical to run. I never think twice about using mine, and often run it overnight in summer.

We can thoroughly recommend AirTurners. They installed our first RC air conditioners many years ago. We decided to replace one because it was getting a bit noisy. Did a great job. Then we had another one put in main bedroom. Really good price. Because of their excellent work my daughter used them for her installations, as well as my sister, who bought the air cons from Bing Lee and when asked for an installers name BL said “Air Turners!”. Air Turners supplied our latest air con and we were also able to claim the Fujitsu refund. Don’t know if that’s still on.

ACTEWAgl energy shop just uses a list of contractors, and you can’t choose who you get. they are quick to get back to you, but some of their workers are totally useless. I’d avoid them.

The Energy shop used to have Eric as their main installer and he is staff.

Big bloke, long beard, has show dogs, nice guy. Ask for Eric to do the install.

ACTive Power and Communications do split system installations for very reasonable prices and they are quite quick and neat too, I’d recommend giving them a ring or at least having a look http://www.activepowerandcomms.com.au
