ACT Health has released Statistical Subdivisions in the ACT 2007-09 – Health Snapshot Series No. 1.

(We’re not entirely sure how three year old data counts as a “snapshot”, but it’s what we’ve got)

The big numbers are:

In 2008:
— Belconnen and Tuggeranong were the most populous subdivisions in the ACT.
— Gungahlin-Hall had the largest proportion (25%) of children to age 14 years, followed by Tuggeranong (21%).
— North Canberra had the highest proportion of people aged between 15-24 years (21%).
— All subdivisions had over half their populations aged between 25-64 years.
— Subdivisions with the highest proportions of older people were Woden (16%), Weston Creek-Stromlo (15%), and South Canberra (14%).
— Over half of ACT Indigenous people lived in Tuggeranong (36%) and Belconnen (25%).
— Woden had the highest population density in 2009, with North Canberra and Weston Creek-Stromlo the lowest.
— North and South Canberra had the lowest density of separate dwellings.
— North Canberra had the lowest median personal income and the highest proportion of severely disadvantaged people (ABS SEIFA lowest quintile).

Thankfully I don’t live in (insert suburb/district here). Those people (north or south) of the lake are losers. Their local shopping centre run by (random interstate company) is terrible!

Lets just agree that Queanbeyhole sucks.

+1

😀

You suck !!!

Yes, *everyone’s* ‘doing it tough’ in the Inner North.

Seriously, Canberra must be hideous for anyone really without resources; poor transport combined with isolation in the suburbs and such a work-fixated culture.

funny that inner north and inner south have some of the lowest housing/population densities. Crazy upside down canberra geography, where innercity areas are almost semi rural and outermost areas (esp Gungahlin) densely packed

Would that be true any more ? think Kingston, Braddon, Watson, Ainslie, Turner, all pretty high density now.

Give it another 10 years of urban infill and the result will be the opposite I reckon.

that would be planning failure

+1 Only in Canberra would you build apartments in the back of whoop whoop, i.e. beyond Gunghalin.

More detailed (albeit older) information is available in the ABS Social Atlas series.

Some very interested maps there for those interested in demographics.
