Reclaim the afternoon and early evening

By johnboy 29 October 2006 47

I had the pleasure on Friday afternoon to saunter past the “reclaim the night” rally in Garema Place

Oddly enough it was still bright daylight at the time. Sadly I couldn’t hear the speakers over the top of the buskers next to King O’

What’s Your opinion?

Wow VG, only one flame?! Guess we all agree with you!

simto 8:38 am 31 Oct 06

Well, that’d be fine, except that a lot of sexual assults aren’t about the attractiveness or otherwise of the victim at all (there’s a fair chunk of granny rapes for example).

So your personal opinion would be fine, except for the bit where it’s completely blanked out by the lack of evidence behind it…

I will be flamed incessantly about this, but I’ve always found it strange that the people who make the most noise about womyn reclaiming the night are, aesthetically speaking, those least likely to be whipped away for the miscreance they rail against.

The principle is great, the presentation….well lets just say some people do a lot to perpetuate a stereotype.

OK flame away, but I reckon I’m only saying aloud what a lot of people think (and its my personal opinion)

Muffin tops are a noice look.

Just ask Kath or Kim.

johnboy 5:38 pm 30 Oct 06

tight low cut jeans + larger girl + bare midriff = Muffin Top.

simbo 5:36 pm 30 Oct 06

Assume that a lady’s low-hanging trousers are the bottom half of a muffin. The muffin top would be what’s hanging over those trousers.

whats a muffin top?

bonfire 4:02 pm 30 Oct 06

if there were more examples of muffin top, i think all carnal thoughts would be eliminated.

just walk around belco mall on pension day…

VYBerlinaV8 4:01 pm 30 Oct 06

He tells women to cover up but calls himself a mufti… Hmmm…

Mr Evil 3:53 pm 30 Oct 06

“Are they muffin tops or mufti tops?”

🙂 LOL

vg 3:02 pm 30 Oct 06

Are they muffin tops or mufti tops?

Couldn’t help it

Mr Evil 2:50 pm 30 Oct 06

Exactly, Mr Shab – that’s what my Mufti told me too!

Mr_Shab 2:36 pm 30 Oct 06

Dressed properly and stayed indoors, Mr Evil.

That way all us poor, weak-willed men won’t have to worry about those violent, carnal urges bubbling to the surface – ’cause the sight of a woman’s muffin-tops leaking over the top of a pair of too-tight jeans jacks up our reptilian brains and turns us into rapists, apparently.

Mr Evil 2:27 pm 30 Oct 06

But I thought that if women dressed properly, then they wouldn’t need to worry about being raped?

snahon 2:15 pm 30 Oct 06

I do not recall ever make fun about rape and never will. if you look at the RTN web site its aim is to stop all forms of violence against women and children.

What I find quirky is there are two links that direct you to two different ethos’s of its members. namely – One for Women only and other for Male inclusiveness.

Personally I can’t see how the “woman only” ethos is going to produce a more effective result when you’re limiting yourself to only 1/2 the population, namely; excluding the perpetrators of said violence.

VYBerlinaV8 1:47 pm 30 Oct 06

There were some jokes about the name of the event, but I don’t recally too many jokes about rape. Male-bashing is very common now, so it’s nice to vent a little from time to time.

seepi 1:34 pm 30 Oct 06

It is bizarre that you lot are offended at the slightest hint of verbal man-bashing, but yet the rape of women is a subject for jokes.

bonfire 1:32 pm 30 Oct 06

thats because they were busy informing on each other and being locked up for reading mad magazine.

i prefer a democracy with surface tension over a dictatorship

seepi 1:29 pm 30 Oct 06

In some regimes – like the old East Germany there was almost no such thing as violent street crime, and women felt quite safe walking at night. So it is possible.

VYBerlinaV8 1:29 pm 30 Oct 06

Do people think that men and women who are rapists are actually going to give a shit about this? It’s just a typical, male-bashing femo execise that does more damage to the concept of sexual equality.

Perhaps us blokes need to start a campaign called “Reclaim the Carpark”, to focus attention on women who molest our cars by not being able to reverse properly.
