Recommend a good doctor?

Can anyone recommend a reasonably reliable and considerate doctor, preferably on the southside please?

I have just spent six months seeing at least six, and two naturopaths, none of whom could give an accurate diagnosis.

Old-fashioned care and service within a reasonable time-frame would be appreciated. Oh, and pleasant polite receptionists would be a bonus.

[Ed] – For those who’ve forgotten, we’ve covered this previously here.

There was one in Watson, but I think she retired.

Its not a contradiciton.

It really is. Medicine is the application of demonstrably beneficial methods in the treatment of disease. Naturopathy, as an alternative medical practice, is the application of unproven or unprovable methods in an attempt to treat disease.

Naturopathy is also unregulated (well, they say self-regulated…) in Australia.

Its not a contradiciton. They do exist – they just have 2 degrees which they have then combined to be a helpful, informed, practical doctor who is not afraid to look into more natural remedies, but knows when it is time to get into the harder stuff. They exist in Melbourne and Sydney, but perhaps not Canberra

Without attempting to be rude, I’d suggest that “a good GP… who is also a naturopath” is a contradiction in terms.

There’s a very, very good Dr Zoran (that’s his first name – no one I know can say his second name) in a medical practice in Picton. He’s worth the drive, and you get to have lunch at Berrima on the way.

You might be better off sticking to one GP – they will see that you are not getting better over time, and order further investigations, or rule out options. It is hard for them to diagnose an unusual or rare problem in one quick visit.

following on from this, does anyone know of a good GP in Canberra who is also a naturopath?

Antonio Didio at Foundation Health care in Wanniasa (just opposite Erindale shops)- good doc, great sense of humour and bulkbills for kids/vaccinations etc…

Many thanks to all for all the advice. Sadly I expected better than what I got. Next time I shall ask for specialist referrals on Day One. I wish I could ask for a refund from all the doctors who told me “… mmmmm- dunno… pay as you leave the surgery – thanks.”

I have been to a few doctors in Canberra and seen a specialist here, none can diagnose my problem, the only doctor who knows that I have a problem is Dr David Voon in Kaleen, he just said to me a man had the same problem, he also went to specialists, and they could not diagnose him, eventually it went away for him, I am still the same after three years, I think that I will go to Sydney for more tests.

Make an appointment with one of your GP’s and get a referral.

A couple. Renata Kruger at Tuggeranong Health Centre (not Tuggeranong Square!!) on 6293 3111. Extrememly busy but very thorough. I’ve also heard good things about Phil Toua at Isabella Plains Medical Centre – 6292 8899.

Good luck!

I agree, it’s definitely specialist time. Or go up to them and say ‘I saw this guy on house who had…” and just watch the GP explode.

Dr Jennifer Bromley in Manuka is wonderful, but doesn’t bulk bill and often runs late (but when you’re in there you feel well looked after). But no idea if they’re taking new patients in the practice… it sounded tricky to get in when I was last there.

Old-fashioned care and service within a reasonable time-frame would be appreciated. Oh, and pleasant polite receptionists would be a bonus.

and as a bonus, the instructions for nailing jelly to the ceiling will also be included… ; )

if the problem is serious and unable to be accurately diagnosed, you could contact the sydney university medicine school and mebbe get up for some advice from them? if six gp have been unable to accurately diagnose you, i’d be calling in the artillery – and/or getting a referral to a specialist! gp’s should be seen as general health maintenance, not the end-product of all medical advice. good luck, and good health!
