Hi everyone – I know this is a tricky area, so I appreciate it if no-one wants to stick their neck out.

I’m looking for a decent lawyer who handles insurance cases, preferably landlords insurance/body corporate issues.

Let’s just say it involves a body corporate and tree roots.

Yellow pages is no real help and google is too random! If you’ve had a good experience please let me know. Also – I have a great recommendation for a painter and cleaner if anyone needs them!

Thanks for that helpful insight HenryBG. You’ve obviously been burnt by someone grossly incompetent.
Maybe you could help poor highstreet out, given you charge out at only $1400 per day?

This doesn’t address insurance issues per say, but has great links and info about body corporate disputes. http://www.acebodycorp.com.au/info/act/understanding-disputes/
If the quantum of your claim is within the $10,000 cap you can go to the small claims court (now ACAT). You won’t be able to have a lawyer with you, but you can get legal advice before you lodge a claim.
Good luck

Without knowing what the issues are and how they are affecting you, you should at the very least realise that any decent solicitor is going to charge $300 an hour at the very minimum, and even a simple matter if it is litigated can very quickly run up $10,000 – $20,000 in costs.

You have to weigh up how much you are prepared to spend to achieve your gaol, assuming that you have a case worth pursing.

As far as who to recommed, pretty much any solicitor can do a few threatening letters for you. If you intend to litigate and you have the money, then go to a firm like Bradley Allen or DLA, but be aware they are not cheap.

I think if you go to whoever you’re in dispute with, turn out your pockets, given them your credit card and PIN number as well as the keys to your car you will come out well ahead of having any kinds of dealings with lawyers.
They’re virtually guaranteed to stuff it up and then talk you into an expensive appeal.

Haven’t had to use them but I have met Bruce the principle at

A B Vincent – Northside Solicitor
Suburb: GUNGAHLIN
Phone: 02 6241 8866

He is a straight shooter and very knowledgeable, I am pretty sure he would be able to assist you or if not he is the sort of guy that would tell you he can’t and send you to the right person.

Failing that the ACT Law Society lists all law firms in the ACT here

Or you could visit the ACT Law Society Advice Bureau which is free and they can refer you to someone experienced in the matter.
