Recommendation for TV aerial installation in Canberra?

Hi,

I recently moved in to a property.

While I was wondering why the TV has no signal, I found out that the previous owner has removed the TV aerial.

So I need to find someone to fit the TV antenna.

Does anyone know any reasonable priced and reliable services in Belconnen? Thanks a lot!

I highly recommend Canberra Antennas http://www.canberraantennas.com.au. They are outstanding. The owner, Jan, replied promptly to my email enquiry, was able to do the work within just a few days, called 30 minutes before arrival as promised, and did a great job at a very reasonable price.

Jan provided excellent customer service even months after my antenna was installed. I had 2 companies work on my roof recently. One company bent the antenna, and the other moved the cord. I emailed Jan on both occasions to ask his advice. He replied promptly, and his advice was very helpful. I wish everyone who worked at my home was as professional, competent and helpful as Jan.

Hi Mate,

We just moved to a new property in Bonner and am not very good with Tools, hence had to get some one to get the TV mounted on the wall.

Had contacted http://www.canberracomms.com.au/, who did the needful. They did mention that they provide TV anatenna installation etc. However the builder had already covered this aspect for us. They did have a check as the signals were not very good and advised that there was some loose cable hanging in the roof which they fixed it.

Good mob, would surely recommend you to have a chat with them.

My 2 cents.

Did they leave the cabling in the wall? If they did then it’s not too hard to just connect your own antenna.

Yeh, there are two outlets. The problem is where I am doesn’t have good reception. Not sure if a standard antenna would work well. I might have to install a split system antenna. Better to get it done professionally.

I use them in Belco, but they’re not reliable – certainly not as good as a rooftop antenna. Different channels can need a different orientation, and sometimes something as simple as my wife walking into the kitchen can cause the signal to go to crap. They’re usable, but right on the verge of not being good enough.

Have you considered doing the cooking and washing up instead of your wife?

I presumed his wife walked into the kitchen while he was doing the dishes.

Just do it yourself. Seriously, it really is simple.

All depends really. If the mast and cable are still there, then yes not too hard. But if the mast is also gone then that can be a nightmare if you don’t know what you are doing.

Any no don’t work for an antenna installing company.

I recently used Kris from Jim’s Antennas for two jobs – mounting a TV on the wall and installing an antenna on the roof of the two storey apartment complex I live in. He was the lowest quote, was able to do the work promptly, his bill came in under his quoted price, and he cleaned up after finishing his work. Very impressed with the quality of work and he seems like a fine young man making a go of his own business. (Also ladies, he is very easy on the eye….)

Rabbit ears? Seriously? Where do you hang them when your plasma sits on the wall?

Step 1: get rid of the power-hungry plasma and replace it with a LCD. Help Tony achieve his 5% greenhouse gas reduction target.
Step 2: if you can mount a 20kg or more TV on a wall, I’m sure you can find somewhere for rabbit ears.

Okay, you may need to feed the cable through a small hole somewhere and then climb on your roof to fit it, but it’s nothing.

Having to climb on the roof isn’t a small deal for a lot of people. For all we know, the OP could be elderly, afraid of heights, not own a ladder, have an antenna fitted to a 2nd storey, have a disability, or simply not feel confident hopping on a roof. Paying for a pro to do the job is a sensible choice for a whole lot of different people.

Palmers are very good. Replaced my aerial a few months ago, reasonable price and good service in this known tricky area (with Simpson’s Hill in the way of the repeater). Highly recommended.

Out of curiosity, where in Belco? We have almost line of sight with Black Mountain and still have problems getting signal, especially with windy weather. I think the new digital transmission is pathetic compared to the old analog, which never wavered in the shadow of a dark storm cloud on the horizon.
Rabbit ears? Seriously? Where do you hang them when your plasma sits on the wall?
Ringer, you may find that the antennas are a bit pricey, so I suggest seeing if the Green Shed might have a spare one in their yard. Mine is a second hand piece found from a “throw out” pile, with a couple of bits missing, but still works a treat. Better than paying $40-$100. Install is easy if the cable is up on the roof, as long as there is a bracket. If you aren’t keen on DIY, then go with some of the recommendations here though.

DON’T DO IT!!

Seriously, don’t re-shackle yourself to the mass media mind control.

When we moved house, our aerial was broken too. As we had other priorities at the time, fixing it was down the end of the to-do list After a couple of months we realised a) we weren’t bored out of our brains, b) our lives were not emptier by not keeping up with who was doing what to whom (fictional or in reality) c) we actually spent a lot of extra time to doing interesting things we had been wanting to do for ages, and d) our lives were much more flexible when not tied to the TV program schedule.

No one asked for your hipster bulls***, they asked who will best fix the aerial.

The domestic VCR (or better) has been around for about 35 years. Nobody needs to be “tied to a TV program schedule” anymore.

Detlev did ours – very happy.

I’ve used Canberra Communications twice to have additional internal aerial points connected up to the aerial on the roof. No complaints about the service – they were quick, cleaned up after themselves and tested the TV to make sure everything was working as it should.

I think they are at Chisholm but they do service Belconnen – 02 6161 1555

+1 Kaz. Maybe not the cheapest by professional

Kaz Electronics did our place a few months ago. They were very quick and did a great job.

i found jims to be quite good….reliable, did the job quickly and without mess/fuss and were right on their estimated quote

there may be cheaper people around, but they were good
