Recommendations for hot towel shave in Canberra?

The annual summer holiday beard has reached its use by date and it’s time to remove it under decree of the Minister for Home Affairs.

Last year I decided to treat myself to a ceremonial removal by way of Ziggy’s (?) in Civic but what should have been a relaxing experience was more like death by a thousand paper cuts (and a blunt cut-throat razor) – the resulting rash the subject of great mirth amongst work colleagues and friends alike.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the ‘Berra where I can get a decent hot towel shave?

Check with Gungahlin Barber. They may do it, I am unsure. But they did certainly have the equipment for it when I was there for a haircut and they used a razor to trim the neck hairs etc.

Hot towel shaves are the shit!

I know this is off topic, but I just can’t resist. I’m an old fart and not up with the modern vernacular and all that, so this took me by surprise. How and when did calling something shit become a compliment? I know if I told my wife she looked like shit there would be trouble. Is it because it’s *the* shit, and not just some shit, or any old random shit? What’s going on here?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/ for all your mordern vernacular needs!

I’d be interested in this too.

Anybody got any more recent advice for this, especially in the north?
Surprised that with so many Turkish food places around Canberra that there’s no Turkish barbers?

+1 for La Homme in Woden – make sure you get Sam though, don’t get it if he’s not there (older italian bloke).

Hot towel shaves are the shit! I cannot recommend them highly enough, years ago in Syd there was a guy who did them and afterwards he would get this incredibly fine, sharp wire and run it up the face to get all the little tiny hairs he missed.

I am thankful that women dont get these but they dont know what they are missing out on… thankfully.

I think my old housemate had one at the Mawson barber and he didn’t have any complaints… but I could be wrong

My partner had one about a month ago at the barber in Curtin adjacent Vince’s milkbar. He said it was amazing 🙂

Homme’s- just off Woden Square, around the corner towards the W’worths loading dock and next to a cafe. Also diagonally across from the Community Credit Union.

Thanks Buzz, Hosinator – I’ll check out Woden, Manuka and Tuggeranong and let you know how it goes. Pommy Bastard – I think you’ve had enough pampering for the summer

MOE’s in Tuggeranong at the Churches Center do hot towel shaves.
Apparently they are very good, there is also one at Woden in the same square as the Post Office, Kathmandu etc.

I’ve had them in places as diverse as the UK, Mexico , Tunisia, and Bangkok.

They are truely wonderful bits of pampering.

I’d be interested in a good Berra one too.

Well Trevar, not having had a decent one I’m not sure if you (we) are missing out on anything but from all reports they are the closest things that facially follicled males can have to a facial without accusations of manscaping.

Beard is trimmed, then whiskers softened with a hot towel, lathered, then shaved with the good ol’ cut throat razor.

I think there might be a guy in Manuka who does it? There isn’t to many because the sterilization process for the razor ends up costing more for the barber or whoever then people actually get shaved.

What’s a hot towel shave? Am I missing something worthwhile?
