Recommendations for tree removalists

After finally getting permission from the powers that be to have a large tree near our house removed, we are now going through the process of obtaining quotes. Since price doesn’t give much of an idea of quality (and the quotes we have so far vary significantly), I was hoping for some recommendations on reliable people for the job.

I note there was a post on arborists/tree surgeons a couple of years ago (Nov 2008), so thought an update might be useful.

Also, what sort of qualifications/insurances/association memberships should we be checking for?

Thanks

We would highly recommend Brent Gillies 0413400936 to anyone who needs Trees cut down, trimming of tree branches around power lines, hedges and vegetation management. Brent is quick, hardworking and honest and was the most competitive with his quotes.

Hi claw,

Not very sure of what qualification would a tree surgeon / removalist require however from insurance side of things one should certainly have the standard public insurance and professional indemnity.

If you ask they would probably be able to provide a copy of the same. This is a commonly used practice so nothing to worry about. And if the mob does not want to provide you one, probably best bet would be to steer away.

Give http://jnltreeservices.com.au/ a call, they do southside and also northside and are also accredited in power line clearing.

My 2 cents.

B and B Tree Surgery. We’ve used Ben many times, he’s good.

I was in the SES in NSW and although trimming dangerous branches was common, we weren’t allowed to fell trees, that was left to the pros.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was happy with Rick’s tree removal, but get other quotes as they will better any by 10%.

Gye Draney 0402 089 736 (sorry, can’t remember his business name). He is a qualified arborist and did an excellent job for us last year, including sweeping up afterwards. He’s also a long term volunteer with the SES and trains the SES vollies to safely operate chainsaws so the only limbs they remove are the trees. Nice bloke too, highly recommended!

A Cut Above Professional Tree Service

I was very happy with Priority Tree Services whom we used last month – showed up when they said they would, did what they said they would, and cheap compared to other quotes. Can’t really ask for more.

I used Discount Trees Service and it was a nightmare, particularly if you want stump removal. ActewAGL provide a list of ‘approved’ companies maybe start there.

You could try putting it to the SES as a training exercise, as long as you are prepared to clean up the debris, although they probably have had enough training for a while lately.

We had a very large tree removed, and used Discount Tree Service, they know what they are doing, we would use them again.
